Manager Metallurgy and Process Design

Where You Will Work Our global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support our operations in finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, and more. Our flexible work program allows employees to work virtually as well as come together in person when needed at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix and/or one of our site locations. Employees can work remotely from most states in the U.S., with the exception of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the position shift to in-person (office/site) work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time, so long as the position meets the established eligibility for these benefits. What You Will Do You are responsible for the management and oversight of strategic metallurgical projects across growth projects, operational support functions, and corporate initiatives, while providing direct technical support, mentorship, and advisement on mineral processing topics and promoting industry best practices across operating companies, with potential responsibility for reserve reporting sign\u2011off. In this role, you lead strategic project planning including project identification and formulation, decision methodology, evaluation with stakeholders, and resource definition to support process execution. As a Manager of Metallurgy and Process Design, you interact with internal and external resources on growth projects and are accountable for executing technical development work, quantifying cost impacts, and regularly communicating project status and outcomes to stakeholders. You perform metallurgical support activities for project sites, including reserve reporting functions as required, and carry out additional responsibilities such as preparing annual budgets and resourcing plans, recruiting personnel, preparing and presenting updates to executive management and external business partners, developing technical materials for patents and conferences, and maintaining and expanding an industry network in extractive metallurgy and mineral processing. What You Bring To Freeport Bachelor\u0027s degree in Engineering and ten (10) years of experience in mineral processing and leaching processes, including five (5) years of experience in operations roles, preferably leading teams, and three (3) years of experience working on projects or other technical initiatives involving mining and engineering companies Strong experience effecting change in operating processing plants Strong working knowledge of geo\u2011metallurgical testing, data interpretation, and modeling tools for forecasting Strong working knowledge of processing techniques of large Porphyry copper deposits Demonstrated history of interpreting geo\u2011metallurgical results and performing regression analyses and/or simulations to develop grade and recovery models for ore types Demonstrated data\u2011centric capabilities using structured problem\u2011solving approaches with statistics and regression tools Specialized technical expertise in three (3) disciplines and general knowledge in five (5) disciplines, including areas such as crushing, grinding, flotation, copper smelting, precious metal refining, solvent extraction, electrowinning, liquid\u2011solid separation including thickening and filtering, tailings, materials handling, process modeling and simulation, statistical analysis, process control, sampling and assaying, and metallurgical accounting Broad experience in mineral processing plant technical support or operations management. MBA or related certification or experience in financial and economic evaluations Experience managing small technical teams, including direct supervision Energetic with excellent communication skills and strong execution capability Experience managing large and complex multi\u2011discipline projects Excellent cross\u2011discipline communication skills
