Position Summary: Responsible for managing safe and efficient yard operations and other duties assigned.
As innovators in the industry and the developer of the first semi-automatic terminal in the NY/NJ harbor, our goal is to push the boundaries of what is possible in marine transportation and encourage others to do the same. Principal Duties & Responsibilities:1. Supervises activities prior to start up and during yard operations. Checks work areas for safe operation of longshoremen and checkers and assures that all labor has been assembled for adequate and efficient operations.2. Maintains good working relationships with labor and union officials and assures that labor policies and contracts are adhered to.3. Responsible for balancing yard machinery, with activity so hours are managed efficiently.4. Coordinates yard activities with ILA foreman on the assigned shift.5. Ensure labor adheres to all safe working rules.6. Ensure labor follows proper standard operating procedures.7. Monitor gate activity (Smart-tecs GOS) and assist Trouble Window with transactions they cannot rectify on their own.8. Provide assistance to ILA Receiving group & Import Delivery Clerk with respect to exports & import N4 inquiries (port rotations, receiving windows, HAZMAT, bad unit records, over dimensions, weight, royalty SQL report issues).9. Assist routing clerks with issues with respect to the interface between GOS and N4 (API calls), report any issues to IT & Smart-Tecs support group.10. Assist TOC management and ILA with issues with respect to the creation of allocations and SPARCS yard filters.11. Design allocation filters and N4 permissions so that the requested types of equipment are routed to M&R area.12. Assist billing department with unit movement inquiries and any discrepancies between N4 and final billing reports.13. Identifies and solves problems and issues on a daily basis, usually of a routine or moderately complex nature.14. Coordinate with Legato team for Ad Hoc vessels calling Port Liberty NY (pass along schedule and outbound EDI needs).15. Utilize the Navis collaboration center to find NSD Vessel files and place them on file for Marine Department use.16. Fix BAPLIE stow plan errors (especially for Ad Hoc vessels which are not set up in N4 prior to short notice of arrival).17. Rectify and restow units that are accidentally short loaded (left in yard) or moved on board vessel in the blind.18. Document & pass along any IT related issues to the appropriate support team.19. Identify and rectify any issues with the COVANTA cycle process, when needed provide system work arounds to operations for special cases.20. Assist rail associates and labor with inbound unit related issues.21. Act as the middle-person between rail ops and EDI help desk, document and report issues as needed.22. Utilize the Navis Collaboration center and designated support contact at Navis to document and formally submit cases for issues regarding the TOS.23. Attend weekly Navis support meeting.24. Follow cases through the support lifecycle.25. Test all N4 version releases, Groovy enhancements, and customization for Marine, Rail, Yard, Gate, TOC.26. Train end users on system changes and enhancements.27. Take requests from operations and translate them into formal support cases for any customization, enhancements, or system shortcomings.28. End to end test GOS, ticket printers, and TOS communication for any upgrades or emergency system patches.29. Work closely with OE and terminal leadership on planning strategies to maximize terminal capacity.30. Work with Ocean Carriers daily regarding receiving dates, empty commitments, on-hire requests, and more.31. Responsible for learning Ship Editor program and applying fixes to NSD files, when necessary.32. Track daily yard volumes and anticipate expected yard volumes for weeks in advance.33. Attend daily operations meeting.34. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities:• Supervision of ILA labor in conjunction with ILA foreman during yard operations.
Requirements:• Four (4) year college or Maritime schooling preferred.• Extensive knowledge of Navis N4 Operating Systems.• Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment.
Experience: Marine terminal experience a plus. Recent grads with the right tools given strong consideration.
Work Environment• The ability to work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.• The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.• Alertness.• Individual might be required to work outside of normal 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule.
Tools: Microsoft office, NAVIS, general office equipment. Must possess a valid driver’sLicense, Pier Superintendent’s license from the Waterfront Commission and TWIC card.
Benefits:• Salary Range: $67,568.00 to $101,352.00 annually + bonus + benefits
