Manager, Nursing

Roswell Park Care Network is looking to hire an experienced professional Manager, Nursing for our beautiful Jamestown Hematology Oncology Practice!

JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Manager is a critical component of patient care in our oncology practices. They are tasked with providing support, guidance and supervision to our clinical staff while ensuring optimal patient care and outcomes.

DESCRIPTION of DUTIES

Clinical:

• Adhere to all applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards; demonstrate thorough knowledge and compliance of all QOPI certification standards and implement all standards to practice.
• Perform nursing assessment that includes the holistic needs of each patient in the planning and delivery of care; provide direct patient care to comply with QOPI standards ensuring patient safety as a priority goal.
• Execute medical regimens prescribed by a physician or other licensed health care provider authorized by New York State
• Oversee and coordinate nursing care with members of the nursing team and providers.
• Provide health education to patients and their supporting network demonstrating emotional intelligence and strong communication skills.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of, and indications for, therapeutic agents and adverse effects for treatments administered within the practice.
• Compound sterile drugs as needed by following the pharmacy training guide and successfully completing the competency evaluation annually.
• Ensures compliance with Institute policies/procedures; influences and/or establishes department policies/procedures and standards of care as appropriate for the practice.
• Maintain medical surgical supplies and account for/maintains drug inventories to meet nursing care needs and maintain cost efficiencies.
• Is aware of and responds to patient satisfaction results as well as nurse satisfaction results for respective practice area as appropriate.
• Assess all medical equipment to ensure functionality; arrange maintenance and certification as required; Implement QOPI standards and ensures compliance across the practice; demonstrate appropriate clinical and administrative decision-making ability.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the EMR; ensure that documentation regarding patient care is entered into the medical record prior to the completion of the workday.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of surgical specialty services to ensure continuity of care by providing training and staffing as needed.

Administrative/Supervisory:

• Direct supervisory authority for the nursing staff for both medical and surgical oncology to ensure compliance with nursing standards of practice and procedures.
• Conduct “daily huddle” with nursing staff prior to patient arrivals. 
• Conduct weekly staff meetings with nursing staff. 
• Has full authority to recommend personnel actions such as promotion, progressive discipline/termination; works with Human Resources to implement.

Clinic Schedule:  

• Review clinic schedules prior to the actual clinic day and ensures that the schedule is appropriate and manageable. 
• Ensure safe and efficient schedule for the infusion clinic by providing patient assignments to nursing personnel based upon patient acuity. 
• Monitor and track nursing certifications, BLS, and chemo/bio certification per QOPI staffing standards.
• Conduct annual performance evaluations of assigned staff; complete annual competency evaluation for each nurse based on QOPI standards.
• Ensure consistent application of organization policies by timely communicating with Practice Manager/Practice Administrator and the Director of Nursing to resolve employee relations issues. 
• Ensure orientation of new personnel regarding job requirements, equipment, and facility’s regulations, procedures, and policies.
• Function as preceptor for new nursing/medical assistant staff members.
• Function as subject matter expert and liaison between the physician and other members of the healthcare team, patient, and their family/support network.
• Delegate additional tasks as required to nursing and medical assistant staff outside of standard clinical responsibilities.
• Prepare and distribute written or electronic documentation as required. 
• Adhere to the RPCI Oncology PC standard for Employee Conduct; always remain HIPAA compliant.

 EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; License to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New York State
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred.
• Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.
• The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time oncology nursing experience required.
• Prior Nurse Management expeirence required.  
• Demonstrated Leadership and professional qualities and character required.
• Experience with EMR software (Onco/MedEnt/Healthilink/IMS)
• Must have experience working in Windows and with MS Office software.
• OSHA and HIPAA training required.
