SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE: This position is responsible for all aspects of the anterior segment service line to maximize the patient care experience with a focus on quality patient care. This position will work closely with multiple departments including scheduling, registration, finance, information technology, surgery scheduling, education, diagnostic testing, and the surgery center. Their goal will be to ensure all aspects of the organization work toward shared priorities under the direction of the Board of Directors and with the advisement of the Senior Leadership Team. This position may have supervisory responsibilities for the anterior segment clinical technicians, IOL Counselors, and the PRK Coordinators.    

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Oversee and guide a diverse team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management to include evaluations and appropriate corrective action up to and including recommending termination, to ensure team members reach their full potential and align with the company’s strategic goals.
  2. Oversees day-to-day actions of staff to ensure established protocols and policies are followed, assigns tasks and redirects staff to ensure daily objectives are accomplished effectively and efficiently.
  3. Ensures adequate staffing at clinic locations to meet provider/patient demand and adjusts staffing at locations as needed.
  4. Monitors staff attendance and timekeeping and ensures timecards are accurate with the goals of payroll accuracy, maximizing physician/staff productivity, and meeting established labor budget targets.
  5. Plans for and facilitates regular department / team meetings to include preparation of the agenda and related materials and ensures timely follow-up on action items identified during the meeting.
  6. Designs, implements, and updates departmental policies and procedures and protocols to continuously improve quality patient care, increase operating efficiencies, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards.
  7. In collaboration with the Providers and Clinical technicians works to maximize efficiencies throughout the clinic specific to patient flow. This can be done through time studies providing feedback and sharing best practices from other areas, responding to patient concerns or complaints. Works with the scheduling and triage department to ensure adequate patient access or works collaboratively to address any barriers.
  8. Helps connect all aspects of the organization to ensure all are working toward shared goals. Ensures policies and protocols reflect practice and constantly connecting with other departments to get input on policies that affect the anterior segment service line including Service Line Protocols, Provider Specific Protocols, and Registration/ Scheduling and SESC Protocols.  
  9. Connects with providers on a consistent basis to determine additional priorities of work and address any concerns they have within their area.
  10. Help to support facility and exam room equipment to ensure all equipment is operating accurately for clinical staff to perform their assigned duties.  

 

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 and have a High School or General Education diploma (GED)
  • Five (5) years of experience in a health care setting • Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R) from the State of Washington within 60 days of employment.
  • Proficient in NextGen Electronic Health Record system and working knowledge of NextGen Practice Management System with emphasis on scheduling.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience in an eye-care setting.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification (COA)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or management related field.
