Description

POSITION TITLE:  Manager of Family Advocacy 

SALARY RANGE: $60,500 - $65,000 

REPORTS TO:  Director of the MDT 

FLSA STATUS:  Full time, Exempt 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Manager of Family Advocacy provides oversight and coordination of direct advocacy support services to child victims and non-offending family members. This position works closely with The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester’s multidisciplinary team (MDT) to coordinate services ensuring that all children and families have access to advocacy support. The Manager of Family Advocacy provides direct supervision to the Family Advocates, ensuring performance of job duties is in accordance with National Children’s Alliance (NCA) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) Standards and to professional ethics, maintaining a high standard of confidentiality. This position reports to the Director of the MDT.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

· Coordinate child advocacy services with participating agencies having a primary focus on family advocacy and support services including CPS, prosecution and medical. 

· Ensure all advocacy services are delivered according to the NCA and OCFS Standards and as delineated in the CACGROC MDT Child Abuse Guidelines. 

· Provide oversight and direct supervision to Family Advocates employed by CACGROC who provide direct services to clients including scheduling and/or making referrals for support services; administering screenings to assess the needs of the victim and non-offending family members including but not limited to a trauma screening and developing comprehensive safety plans with the non-offending caregivers as needed.

· Work closely with the Director of Mental Health Services to facilitate appropriate mental health referrals

· Work with MDT Director to develop and maintain training and client support service standards for MDT members, including family advocates, CPS, ADAs and medical staff.

· Coordinate, schedule and/or make referrals for services to be provided by team members and other providers as warranted. 

· Provide oversight and supervision to Family Advocates employed by CACGROC to ensure non-offending caregivers/guardians are receiving assistance with completing and filing NYS Office of Victim Services (OVS) compensation claim applications.

· Responsible for the oversight of CAC staff family advocacy documentation and data collection of cases in the Collaborate data tracking system, coordinating with the Data Manager. 

· Lead the MDT Case Review process

· Provide representation at ADCOM

· Assist with the collection of data for monthly/quarterly grant reporting, ensuring reports are submitted in a timely manner, with emphasis on oversight to OVS Claims.

· Work collaboratively with the MDT providing support at the child advocacy center and/or by responding in the field as needed.

· Meet with appropriate partner agencies (CPS, DA’s Office, REACH) on an annual basis to ensure the coordination of services is successful and communication is unrestricted.

· Receive continuing education related to child abuse and training in current trends of support and advocacy services.

· In collaboration with the CACGROC Intervention Team, assess training needs of MDT; is responsible for coordinating and/or conducting trainings as needed. 

· Develop resource materials, family advocacy manuals, orientation documents, and assist with special projects.

· Communicate effectively with child victims, witnesses, and others regardless of age, sex, social, economic, cultural or ethnic backgrounds, maintaining a strict standard of confidentiality.

· Participate as a member of CACGROC’s management team, attending meetings as requested by members of the Leadership Team and always acting as a leader in agency operations.

· Other duties as assigned 


Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate proficiency in meeting competencies required for position; able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field and two or more years’ experience working with abused and neglected children; OR

· Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field and five or more years’ experience working with abused and neglected children.

· A minimum of two years' direct supervisory experience is required.

  

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

· Outstanding customer service, interpersonal communication, and listening skills

· Prior experience providing crisis counseling or problem solving with at-risk children and families

· Knowledge of advocacy standards and skills relating to victims of crime

· Knowledge of child abuse dynamics, child protective and law enforcement investigation procedures, and the legal reporting mandates for professionals

· Ability to engage and build rapport with all children and family members 

· Familiarity with the legal, social service, medical and mental health systems responsible for protecting children

· Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with multiple agencies 

· Ability to effectively prioritize and organize assignments in a fast-paced work environment

· Respect for diversity and a commitment to providing culturally competent and inclusive services

· Strong organizational and communication skills. 

· Experience managing people with diverse backgrounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Prolonged periods of working on a computer

· Ability to communicate, both verbally and in written form

· Ability to bend, squat, and climb stairs, as well as lift 25 pounds

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule and have reliable transportation to travel to multiple sites when needed
