Manager of Security

SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, this position will require appropriate level of presence and leadership for 24/7 operations and must be able to respond to emergencies during non-work hours. This position is essential in the event of  an emergency. 

LOCATION: 444 Harrison Ave., Boston and other locations as needed within the Boston area. 

This position works primarily on site at Pine Street Inn’s main offices, with limited remote work available.

POSITION SUMMARY

In this position, you will oversee the daily management of on-site security operations, including the performance of contracted security guards. You will assist both the Director of Security and the Senior Director of Safety and Security. The role involves providing administrative support, managing projects, handling emergency situations, formulating safety policies, and performing various related tasks. To succeed, you should be self-driven, have strong communication skills, and contribute to the creation of new policies, procedures, and plans. A high level of tact, diplomacy, professional ethics, sensitivity to challenges, and utmost discretion regarding confidential information and sensitive personnel matters is essential.

This position is not solely office-based; you will be expected to travel throughout the metro-Boston area as part of your role. You will regularly visit all Pine Street Inn sites to assess security needs and monitor the performance of contracted security guards. Additionally, you will provide on-the-spot coaching and correction to ensure that safety, security, and respectful treatment of all staff, guests, and visitors remain a priority.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Required:

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required (4 or more years of work experience, or 2 or more years in Law Enforcement))
• A valid Massachusetts’s driver’s license and the ability to meet all PSI driver criteria.

PREFERRED:

• Bachelor's degree
• Training in trauma-informed care, crisis prevention and harm reduction
• Experience working with homeless populations and/or vulnerable populations
• Experience in analyzing and mitigating security risks

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE (required:

• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
• Proficient computer skills, including the Microsoft suite of programs, and a strong ability to learn new applications and software.
• Advanced Excel and budgeting skills.
• Knowledge of laws and the ability to interpret legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and executive orders.
• Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, and strategies that promote effective security operations for the protection of people and property.
• Successful experience in leading change
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including a proven ability to negotiate conflicting priorities, unite teams, and motivate others  
• Must possess extensive experience in de-escalation techniques and a thorough understanding of Trauma-Informed Care principles.
• Knowledge of nonviolent crisis intervention techniques and/or training in Crisis Prevention Institute methods is required.
