Job Description - Manager, Pharmacy

Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Under moderate direction, coordinates and supervises pharmacy services including preparation and dispensing of drugs, supplies, and equipment, preparation of sterile products and clinical pharmacy services.

Clinical Pharmacist will be located within The Wright Center for Primary Care and focus on providing longitudinal, pharmaceutical care to patients within the clinical settings.  The Clinical Pharmacist will also provide education and outreach to physicians, residents and other providers on prescribing guidelines, alternative drug therapies, and risk mitigation. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position will report to the Medical Director, and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Physicians, Residents, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, Nurses, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Medical Assistants whose main objective is to provide optimal patient care in a primary care setting.  As the service line expands pharmacists will report to this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

While living and demonstrating our Core Values, the Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacist will:

  • Lead the development, implementation and sustainability of pharmacy services at TWCCH’s health centers
  • Supervise pharmacy staff including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Oversee, direct, coordinate and supervise all pharmacy activities
  • Work to facilitate and coordinate pharmacy operations
  • Participate/assist in procurement of drugs, supplies and equipment used in preparing and dispensing drugs
  • Perform duties of the clinical pharmacist 
  • Maintain clinical skills and knowledge of pharmacotherapy by reviewing the literature and attending in services, seminars, and conferences
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Develop and participate in pharmacy-related quality improvement and medication management initiatives.
  • Work with the infectious disease team and provide oversight and leadership for the 340B program to ensure to optimize its importance.
  • Coordinate and manage medication and sample inventory for clinics.
  • Work with the Primary Care team in meeting a patient's transitional care goals (may include home visits, practice encounters, etc.).
  • Explore academic partnership integrations for workforce development with agencies such as (AHEC, Wilkes University, LCCC etc.).
  • Assist with claims/prior authorization issues.
  • Work with marketing to promote pharmacy services
  • Ensure patient satisfaction and provide excellent customer service.
  • Conduct performance reviews, at least annually, for pharmacy personnel
  • Participate in health center huddles and other meetings as required
  • Prepare and submit management reports as required
  • Participate in development of service line budget for pharmacy operations
  • Guide pharmacy toward achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual projections based on financial and management objectives.
  • Follow established channels of authority and communication throughout the organization
  • Maintain on call schedule for pharmacists and covers as needed
  • Perform special tasks or projects as requested
  • Development and implement policies and SOPs
  • Adhere to all organizational policies. 
  • Recruit and hire staff as necessary 
  • Responsible for department orientation/training and management of staff
  • Verification of licensure of staff
  • Provision of ongoing education programs
  • Define the responsibilities of each of the pharmacy staff

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Meet The Wright Center for Community Health and its affiliated entity The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education EOS© People Analyzer Tool
  • Buy in and experience working in the EOS® model (strongly preferred)
  • Mission-oriented; represents the enterprise in a professional manner while demonstrating organizational pride
  • Doctor of Pharmacy or Masters of Science in Pharmacy desirable from an accredited (Council on Pharmaceutical Education).   Four years of managing pharmacy operations and/or clinical pharmacy experience
  • Current licensure by the PA State Board of Pharmacy
  • Three (3) plus years managerial experience in a pharmacy environment.
  • Previous management experience required 
  • Proficiency in all Pharmacy computer systems, automated dispensing software and systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • CPR Certification 
  • Valid PA Driver’s License
