Job Description
The Manager of Production Parts Purchasing is responsible for purchasing all assigned production parts to support the achievement of the company objectives. The Manager ensures that the production parts are delivered in accordance with company requirements for quality, delivery, cost and performance specifications. Develops and implements strategies for sourcing, cost improvement, optimal quality and delivery to execute targets. Works with departmental management and other buyers as needed to accomplish departmental goals and company objectives.
The Manager, Production Parts Purchasing is a leadership position with direct reports that may include Senior Buyers, Buyers, or other purchasing personnel. This role is responsible for managing a diverse supply base and leading complex supplier negotiations. This role must demonstrate effective leadership and collaboration with suppliers,
Leadership & Employee Development 30%
- Responsible for employment decisions, salary and promotional recommendations, training and appraising performance, promptly and appropriately address deficient performance and/or inappropriate behaviors by working with upper management and HR.
- Coach and manage individual performance of staff; promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, quality and accountability.
- Create and implement trainings and development opportunities for purchasing team to foster strong team approach.
- Plans and manages purchasing organization, personnel plan and budgets.
Supplier Sourcing & Cost Improvement 30%
- Manages decisions/changes of suppliers and/or purchase prices.
- Plans and promotes sourcing and reviews cost improvement ideas.
- Manages supplier quality and deliveries.
- Motivates and promotes supplier improvement activity (e.g. cost, manufacturing/supply chain optimization, quality and etc.)
- Delivers revenue and cost saving opportunities through innovative product implementation sourcing and business design.
- Manages all departmental activities such as supplier readiness, cost reductions, cost increases, cost analysis, design changes, sourcing and/or purchase agreements.
Purchasing 20%
- Develops, refines, and maintains purchasing processes and procedures based on the Mazda purchasing global process.
- Provides support, direction and leadership to achieve the objectives.
- Manages supplier assessments and certifications (e.g. financial status, engineering capability, manufacturing capability, competitiveness, etc.).
- Provides support, direction and leadership to achieve company objectives defined by executive management.
- Negotiates with supplier senior management to overcome roadblocks and obtain their commitment to achieve the requirements of MNAO on quality, cost, delivery, and development.
- Identify, promote, and implement process improvements.
Benchmarking 20%
- Collects and organizes benchmark information (industry trend, cost index, etc.).
Qualifications and Other Requirements:
Education (Minimum):
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Operations Planning or related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
Required Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in procurement including purchasing, inventory control, contract negotiation, supply chain management, supplier relationships
- Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in supervisory or leadership role
- Experience in cost analysis, negotiations, and project management.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Previous purchasing experience in an automotive industry is strongly preferred (and/or ability to demonstrate comparable knowledge and skills)
- Knowledge of North American OEM & Service parts automotive industry standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to establish effective working relationships
- Ability to work independently
- Presentation and public speaking skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of commodities in area of specialization
- Detail oriented and ability to multi-task
Travel:
May be required 1 - 3 times per six month (including overseas travel)

Pay Range
$108,900.00 - $166,125.00
Salary to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
