Job Description - Manager, Software Engineering

We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do \u2013 and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.\n\nJob Summary:\n\nThe Credit Platform team builds the core foundation behind PayPal\u2019s global credit ecosystem, powering products like Credit Cards, Buy Now Pay Later, Working Capital, and Merchant Term Loans for millions of customers and businesses worldwide. Our platform supports credit products across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Australia, with continued expansion planned. \n \nWe develop core credit capabilities through well-defined APIs that power the full credit lifecycle\u2014from offers and eligibility to application, account management, asset sales and beyond\u2014enabling consistent, scalable experiences across products and markets. \n \nIn this role, you will lead a team of engineers building foundational backend systems that are critical to PayPal\u2019s credit products.\n\nJob Description:\n\nEssential Responsibilities: \n\n * Directly manages software development projects (including program management) and execution through individual contributors. May also lead project teams across platforms or groups\n * Implements processes to drive strong operational hygiene for all components and systems within their group\n * Responsible for the delivery of projects, including quality and timeliness, that impact their domain and potentially one other\n * Demonstrates strong tactical ability by managing the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope where analysis requires an understanding of current business or tends\n * Competent at communicating technical issues with non-technical audiences\n * Analyzes multiple sources of information and identifies \u0026 resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development.\n * Collaborates with direct team, managers in org, stakeholders such as Product Owners \u0026 PMO\n\n\n\nMinimum Qualifications:\n\n * 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor\u2019s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.\n\n\n\nAdditional Responsibilities \u0026 Preferred Qualifications:\n\n## Role Scope \u0026 Impact\n\n * Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team delivering scalable, low-latency, and highly reliable credit systems\n\n * Own a defined platform area with significant business impact on several Credit initiatives\n\n * Drive execution and technical direction for complex, cross-team initiatives\n\n\n\n\n## What You\u2019ll Do\n\n * Drive predictable delivery by managing priorities, risks, and cross-team dependencies\n\n * Partner with Product, Risk, and several PayPal teams to build robust solutions\n\n * Guide architecture and ensure systems meet high standards for reliability, observability, and data integrity\n\n * Establish and track SLOs, KPIs, and operational metrics to continuously improve system performance\n\n * Champion engineering excellence across code quality, testing, and incident management\n\n * Balance short-term delivery with long-term platform scalability and maintainability\n\n\n\n\n## Leadership \u0026 Growth\n\n * Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent\n\n * Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and psychological safety\n\n * Mentor senior engineers and help grow future technical and people leaders\n\n * Drive clarity in goals, roles, and expectations aligned with broader organizational priorities\n\n\n\n\n## What Makes You a Strong Fit\n\n * Thrive in ambiguous, high-stakes environments and make sound trade-offs across business, technical, and risk considerations\n\n * Bring a data-driven mindset with a focus on measurable outcomes and continuous improvement\n\n * Communicate effectively and can translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences\n\n * Influence outcomes beyond your immediate team in a matrixed organization\n\n * Contribute to multi-quarter roadmap planning and technical strategy\n\n\n\n\nSubsidiary:\n\nPayPal\n\nTravel Percent:\n\n0\n\n-\n\nThe base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring.
