The Manager, Transformation plays a critical role in advancing the League of Women Voters of the United States’ (LWVUS) capacity-building efforts for the nationwide network of more than 750 state and local Leagues. The position leads implementation of the Transformation roadmap to build a more integrated, equitable, and inclusive League network with increased operational capacity and a stronger foundation for advocacy and activism.
The Manager serves as a key connector between the national office and League staff and volunteers in the field. They are responsive and proactive in addressing the needs of Transformation by providing training, resource ideation and development, and technical assistance. They bring and leverage expertise in nonprofit operations, governance, and volunteer management.
Transformation is a multi-pronged, multi-year process that will shape the League's organizational structure for its second century. The Transformation roadmap is designed to achieve the vision of a network of vibrant Leagues that are powerfully communicating the League story at all levels; engaging and welcoming new members, supporters, and volunteers; embodying the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) found in their communities; and leveraging resources strategically to support the League’s mission while having a meaningful impact.
The current focus of Transformation is increasing capacity for state Leagues in the following core competencies:
· People & culture (e.g., governance, leadership, culture)
· Infrastructure & operations (e.g., data practices, technology infrastructure, staffing)
· Financial resources (e.g., fundraising, financial management, compliance & administration)
· Core mission work (e.g., member and volunteer recruitment & retention, communications, mobilization, partnerships, legislative advocacy & litigation)
Salary range for this position: $85,000 - $95,000. Benefits details available upon request.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of Transformation Initiative (50%)
· Manages the implementation of the League’s Transformation work, including establishing goals, timelines, and workflows to achieve goals
· Leads the state-capacity building pilot program and serves as primary point of contact for engaging mentors and partners for participating/incoming state Executive Directors and Board Presidents
· Serves as the primary liaison to consultants, partners, and other stakeholders engaged in Transformation-related work
· Convenes and facilitates regular meetings with internal staff stakeholders as well as the Board’s Transformation Team, to provide updates, solicit input, and support informed decision-making
· In all activities operates in alignment with the League’s mission and values
Training and Resource Development (25%)
· Ideates and works with or in coordination with relevant teammates to execute annual training plans that align with Transformation goals and address common League needs in core competency areas
· Leads and supervises coordination of the development of accessible, high-quality training programs and resources for Leagues
· Ensures training and resource content reflects League policies and nonprofit best practices
· Centers diversity, equity inclusion and racial equity in training programs and resources
League Support and Communications (15%)
· Oversees internal processes for triage and providing timely and informed response to League inquiries / requests for assistance
· Establishes and refines processes to track, manage, and evaluate League support services
· Offers guidance to Leagues on League policies, nonprofit governance, volunteer management, and other relevant topics
Administrative (10%)
· Supervises at least one staff member; provides coaching, feedback, and opportunities for growth
· Liases between staff and designated LWVUS/LWVEF board committees or task forces, as assigned
· Supports internal process improvements and documentation to enhance efficiency
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a federated organization; experience or familiarity with the national, state, or local League of Women Voters preferred
· Strong understanding of nonprofit operations and volunteer management, including in small or all-volunteer organizations
· Strong knowledge of nonprofit board governance, including bylaws and foundational documents, along with a working understanding of relevant nonprofit laws
· Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion principles; ability to center racial equity in work
· Demonstrated experience in organizational development, change management, or capacity-building initiatives
· Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills; ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
· Excellent project management skills; able to balance immediate needs with long-term goals
· High degree of professionalism, discretion, flexibility, and diplomacy
· Must be able to maintain a nonpartisan approach to people and projects
· Experience in curriculum design, training development, and adult learning principles is a plus!
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The person in this position is primarily sedentary and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets and office machinery. The person must also be available to travel and walk longer distances to offices and events. Computers and other office productivity machinery are constantly operated, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, and computer printer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally indoors and rarely exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate-to-low.
