Position Purpose:

The Manager- Logistics is primarily responsible for facilitating the daily work of the logistics team under the supervision of the Senior Manager – Logistics. This position is responsible for creating an efficient and balanced workload within the delivery schedule and serves as a resource for driver support. Additionally, this position will maintain accurate inventory and record upkeep, and coordinate fleet safety. This position will foster and demonstrate collaboration within the entire Operations team to ensure daily operations are effective in meeting established priorities. This position is based on-site and will serve as back-up driver as needed. A valid Vermont Commercial Driver’s License (class B) is required.

The starting pay for the position is set at $29.46 an hour with eventual potential range ($61,285 to $82,915) placement based on years of experience within VF compensation equity roadmap.

Requirements

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Works cooperatively and is able to communicate with staff and volunteers to support the mission of the Foodbank to meet and sustain Foodbank goals.
• Positively contribute to an organizational culture of safe and secure food handling, warehousing and distribution.

• Daily communication with Senior Manager of Logistics on Reasonable Suspicion, Fleet Safety and Logistics.
• Assists drivers with morning duties including loading trucks, dropping product, and accommodating for large deliveries
• Assists the Senior Manager of Logistics to review and update routes for efficiency and balance of workload.
• Coordinates with the warehouse to review next day deliveries and routes and assists with organizing orders and products.
• Maintains daily communication with drivers to ensure donor pickups and agency deliveries are completed on time and unscheduled changes are communicated to appropriate Operations and Community Impact staff.
• Maintain truck maintenance, receive daily vehicle inspection reports, and schedule maintenance as needed.
• Coordinates all registrations, inspections, and cleaning of Barre branch truck fleet.
• Creates weekly schedule including managing reschedules and donation pickups.
• Collaborate with Director of Operations and Senior Manger Logistics to determine incoming and outgoing inventory along with Branch transfers.
• Assists with updating and maintaining transportation SOPs and ensures requirements for third party audits are being met.
• Assist with warehouse operations as necessary including, but not limited to, picking orders, agency pick-ups, receiving, and sort room activities.
• Take part during physical inventory.
• Flexible hours required.
• In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, Vermont Foodbank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all its employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.

Other Functions:

• Other duties as assigned by Senior Manager – Logistics or Director – Operations
• Attend organizational learning days and other meetings as appropriate

Skills/Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities an individual needs in order to perform this job successfully. 

Education and/or Experience:

• 18 months’ experience in driving large straight/semi-trucks in a food related industry, preferred. 
• Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience
• Experience in the use of material handling equipment.
• 3+ years of related work experience.
• Familiarity with geography of state of Vermont

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
• Some experience with route creation and dispatching
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to be flexible.  
• Organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience communicating effectively with diverse groups of people
• Experience in providing exceptional customer service.

Language Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Technical/Computer Skills:

• Proficient in MS Office Suite and other emerging platforms.
• Familiarity with routing technology a plus

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:

• A valid Vermont Commercial Driver’s License (class B). 
• Current DOT medical card. 
• 3-year motor vehicle report (MVR) showing a clean driving record. 
• ServSafe certified or ability to obtain
