Job Description - Managing Director, Power Trading & Origination

Wells Fargo Corporate & Investment Banking delivers a comprehensive suite of capital markets, banking, and financial products and services. A trusted partner to our clients, we provide corporate and transactional banking, commercial real estate lending and servicing, investment banking, equity and fixed income solutions including sales, trading, and research capabilities to corporate, commercial real estate, government, and institutional clients across the globe.

Markets provides solutions to clients with the means to manage their exposure through various derivatives, lending and cash products across Structured Products Group, Macro, Equities, Municipal Products Group, Credit Sales & Trading.

About this role:

Wells Fargo’s Commodities group is seeking a Managing Director, Power Trading & Origination to build its power trading desk.

The individual will be responsible for managing the operational build-out of a financially settled and physically settled power desk, with an initial geographic focus on US markets (including PJM, ERCOT, MISO, CAISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and SPP). As products are launched, the individual will also be responsible for hiring a team for the sales and trading activities of the power desk. The position will require close coordination with Wells Fargo’s quant, legal, tech, credit, market risk, and compliance partners to successfully launch products associated with power trading, complementing its existing financial and physical trading desks for energy, metals, and softs.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify the origination, modeling, portfolio management and all risk management including compliance and operational risk.

  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex initiatives that require an in-depth evaluation.

  • Complete work in accordance with all risk management, compliance and business process expectations.

  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to more experienced leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions.

  • Make decisions requiring solid understanding of policies, procedures and compliance requirements.

  • Conduct due diligence and portfolio administration as necessary and provide research on relevant industry trends.

  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and mid-level to more experienced managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.

  • Lead projects, teams or serve as a peer mentor.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of power trading, origination, and/or operations experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of business development: business vision, strategies, and goals

  • Experience with trading physical commodities within the financial services industry

  • A master's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics

  • Strong, clear and concise written and oral communication skills

  • Strong financial background in capital markets

  • Experience building partnerships and consulting effectively with leadership

  • Ability to make timely and independent judgment decisions while working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment

Job Expectations:

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time

  • Specific compliance policies may apply regarding outside activities or personal investing; affected employees will be expected to provide information to the Wells Fargo Personal Account Dealing Team and abide by applicable policy requirements if hired. Information will be shared about expectations during the recruitment process.
