Job Description - Manufacturing + Design Engineer

Job Description

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:
Identify improvement opportunities and lead the implementation of process improvements to reduce cost, increase quality and repeatability, improve changeover.
Document and maintain work instructions.
Maintain costing, and routing information for parts and assemblies.
Collaborate with Product Engineering to develop and design component processes for new parts and lead the DFM process.
Improve tooling to reduce expenses.
Work with outside suppliers to enhance, improve and solve problems.
Work with design engineering on product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Execute plant design layouts.
Evaluate process for most cost effective manufacturing process.
SECONDARY DUTIES:

Design tools and fixtures to improve the work piece holding capability for assembly and machining processes.
Write and execute validation protocols.
Research new capabilities for future demand and production needs.
Develop tooling for sheet metal and plastic part production.
Participate in projects to meet department goals and objectives.
Participate in sourcing changes from in-house to supplier and vice versa to meet demand and capability changes.
Provide guidance among co-ops
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in engineering preferred and 2-5 years of experience in an engineering role or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
COMPETENCY/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with 3D solid modeling skills, Pro/E preferred
Ability to read Bill of Materials
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to multitask and problem solve
Experience with an ERP system. Oracle preferred. PLM Agile preferred.
Ability to analyze and interpret data
Ability to prepare Test Protocols and Test Reports
Attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong analytical and communication skills (written & verbal)
Ability to read engineering documents
Experience with 2D design software, AutoCAD preferred.
Awareness of Lean principles and concepts

While performing duties, the teammate regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The teammate can be exposed to vibration, the risk of electrical shock, fumes and airborne particles. Teammate is exposed to sharp objects that could cause cuts or abrasions. The teammate might work near parts or inventory that is stacked on skids, in bins or racks and is moved throughout the factory with tuggers and tow motors. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
