Manufacturing Diagnostics Engineer — Tuscaloosa, AL (On-site) | Contract | $64-69/hour
Our client, a leading autonomous vehicle company, is hiring a Manufacturing Diagnostics Engineer to support the bring-up, validation, testing, and troubleshooting of the electrical and firmware systems on their primary drive-module subassembly — the unit that is ultimately assembled onto the vehicle. You'll be the first line of defense for electrical, firmware, and functional issues on the manufacturing line and help design the next-generation diagnostic architecture for higher-volume production.
What you'll do:
- Serve as the first line of defense for electrical, firmware, and functional issues on the drive-module assembly (software/firmware, harnessing, networking, hardware, infrastructure).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues at the manufacturing supplier: flash firmware, update test sequences, and repair harness connectors, terminals, and wires.
- Debug across automotive networking protocols — CAN, LIN, Automotive & Standard Ethernet, and GMSL.
- Translate component- and vehicle-level requirements into scalable, system-level validation test scripts and cases.
- Develop work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and workaround documentation for line operators.
- Design and implement next-generation diagnostic architectures to support future, higher-volume manufacturing lines.
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, including reading, troubleshooting, and injecting packets over CAN, LIN, and Ethernet.
- 2-4 years with automotive controller integration testing or test-script development in a high-level language such as Python.
- Experience with GitHub (or similar) for software management, and a strong background in Linux and shell/bash/terminal scripting.
- Bonus: Master's degree; integration/automation of manufacturing and test equipment; SQL; TCP/IP, API, and network engineering.
Logistics:
- 100% on-site in Tuscaloosa, AL (1200 Commerce Drive). Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm (30-min lunch) or 8:00am-5:00pm (1-hr lunch).
- Contract role. $64-69/hour.
- Interview: 30-minute manager video interview + 1.5-hour panel interview.
