Job Description - Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining manufacturing systems for the efficient manufacture and assembly of high quality product though the use of engineering science.  The Manufacturing Engineer will be involved in solving production challenges and troubleshooting while managing improvement projects.  The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Quality, Purchasing and MIS to develop and maintain manufacturing systems that can accurately and efficiently produce product. Position requires up to 10% in-state and out-of-state travel.

Responsibilities:



  • Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment, processes, controls, and technical systems

  • Continuously seek improvements in efficiency and quality for processes within area of focus

  • Ensure manufacturing processes support efficient, consistent, and high-quality production

  • Assist in quoting new products or production improvements

  • Evaluate tooling needs and develop implementation plans

  • Design in-house tooling

  • Develop tooling specifications

  • Review tooling designs prior to construction

  • Evaluate ECRs and MECRs as necessary

  • Evaluate production efficiency and develop improvement plans using Lean Six Sigma
    methodology

  • Develop production work center layout redesigns in CAD and perform ergonomic studies

  • Develop process and value stream maps to assist in efficiency improvement

  • Perform Process Capability Studies

  • Assist in pre-production design critique and evaluation through participation in design reviews

  • Collaborate on cross-functional teams to develop and maintain DFM & DFA standards

  • Evaluate SPC data and seek improvements where necessary

  • Specify, justify, implement, commission, and support new manufacturing equipment and technologies

  • Develop PFMEA documentation

  • Assist in production launch planning

  • Effectively manage multiple projects

  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization


Required Skills:



  • B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on manufacturing and equipment troubleshooting experience

  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot unfamiliar equipment and technical problems through research, testing, documentation, vendor support, and systematic problem-solving

  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems including sensors, I/O, relays, controls, basic wiring, and electrical schematics

  • Experience working with industrial automation technologies such as PLCs, HMIs, industrial controls, manufacturing networks, and automated equipment

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and create technical documents, engineering drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation

  • Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize tasks to meet required deadlines

  • Proficient in the use of productivity software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as 3D CAD software (SolidWorks)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative and the ability to take ownership of projects

  • Lean Six Sigma experience and training


Additional Skills:



  • Sheet metal, welding, and assembly operations

  • IATF 16949 experience

  • Experience programming or configuring manufacturing equipment such as DC electric torque tools, barcode/vision systems (Keyence), or similar technologies
