Job Description - Mariculture Director

Position Description: The Mariculture Director is responsible for planning and directing the long-term strategy, financial management, staff supervision, budgeting, and mariculture program direction for the APMI 





Primary Duties and Responsibilities 



  • Collaborates with the Production Manager & Algologist with algae culture, feeding schedules, growth and mortality monitoring, and record keeping. 



  • Develops production schedules and supervises hatchery personnel to ensure staff adhere to protocols. 



  • Supervises staff to include timekeeping, project supervision, and personnel development. 



  • Establishes and maintains high standards of hygiene, biosecurity, and safety, adhering to ADFG pathology requirements.  



  • Ensures compliance with ADFG genetic requirements. 



  • Participates with natural resource projects and issues with the communities served in the Chugach Region.   



  • Interacts with University researchers, State and Federal agencies, and industry members on project development, permitting, cooperative projects, grant writing, and administration.  



  • Act as a spokesman for APMI and CRRC representing CRRC programs to the public.  



  • Serves on forums and groups that promote issues important to CRRC and its objectives. 



  • Prepares budgets for approval, including those for funding or implementation of programs. 



  • Directs, plans, or implements policies, objectives, or activities of the organization to ensure continuing operations, maximize returns on investments, and increase productivity. 



  • Analyzes operations to evaluate the performance of CRRC and its staff in meeting objectives, and to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change. 



  • Attends and participates in internal and external meetings as . 



  • Performs other duties as assigned.  





Educational & Experience Requirements: 



  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field. 



  • Five years of experience in a similar position; two (2) years of supervisory experience. 


 


Skills and Abilities: 



  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. 



  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, and government regulations. 



  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. 



  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. 



  • Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. 




    • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents. 



    • Communicating effectively in writing, speaking, and presenting as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
