We are located on the beautiful barrier beach of Fire Island, where travel to work is by ferry and your commute is worry free as you enjoy the tranquil ride across the Great South Bay to Fire Island Pines, where we have a reputation for diversity and are welcoming of all.
Fire Island Pines is the largest residential community on Fire Island and includes some 600 homes and 100 co-ops. Our community has a population as high as 5,000 in the summer and about 50 in winter. Residents, renters, and guests all come here to enjoy, relax, and have fun.
With over 400 members, FIPPOA (Fire Island Pines Property Owners Association), a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, is led by elected officers and a board of directors who oversee the operations of the community and help protect the fragile ecosystem of a barrier island. Our other organization, The Pines Foundation (TPF), is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity organization which raises critical funds for our local Pines programs and projects that make our community thrive, including our word famous annual event, the Pines Party. In addition, TPF provides grants to our long-time beneficiaries - Stonewall Community Foundation and Seashore Defense Fund and manages our endowment.
Job Description: Marina Dockhand
Qualifications:
- Must be a team player and be able to work independently
- Outgoing with good customer service skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently on select projects
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and get the job done
- Able to work weekends, weekdays and some holidays with a flexible schedule
- Uniform polo shirts (provided), kaki pants or shorts and sneakers required
- Prior boating knowledge and boater safety certificate preferred and considered first
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the Harbormaster with various projects
- Assist boaters and visitors of harbor
- Assisting arriving and departing boats (including tying and un-tying)
- Meet every ferry and provide directional service to ferry passengers
- Reservation taking and credit card payment processing
- General maintenance (power washing, sweeping, cleanup, etc)
- Inbound and outboard boat and fright dock monitoring
- Helping out with community events

The Fire Island Pines Property Owners’ Association envisions a diverse and inclusive community of LGBTQ+ neighbors working together to achieve a higher quality of life in Fire Island Pines.
Fire Island Pines Property Owners’ Association (FIPPOA) was incorporated in 1953 to assume responsibility for the community’s property.
Through the years, the association’s role has expanded to become the recognized local government representing the interests of Fire Island Pines with federal, state, Suffolk County and Town of Brookhaven officials and agencies.
With more than 500 members, FIPPOA is volunteer-led, by elected officers and a board of directors who oversee the operations of the community and help protect the fragile ecosystem of a barrier island. FIPPOA operations include the Pines Harbor and Marina, which the association owns and from which it derives a substantial portion of the association’s income.
Among the many responsibilities assumed by FIPPOA are beach erosion protection, harbor maintenance and beautification, safety and lighting, and operation of the post office. The association coordinates with other local government agencies for boardwalk maintenance, waste collection and mosquito control as well as negotiating contracts for passenger ferry and freight services. In addition, FIPPOA serves as liaison with electric, telecommunications and water utilities and the Suffolk County Police.

Our History
Fire Island Pines is the largest residential community on Fire Island, one of four barrier islands that line the south shore of Long Island. The 32-mile-long island stretches from Old Inlet in the east to Democrat Point in the west.
First settled in the late 18th century, Fire Island has since grown into a popular summer attraction. It draws beach-lovers from New York City and around the world, as well as day-trippers from New York and Long Island.
In 1964, the Secretary of the Interior created the Fire Island National Seashore which, from the beginning, included Fire Island Pines and other pre-existing communities and commercial uses. Today, Fire Island Pines is one of 17 distinct communities on Fire Island.
