As a Marine Painter, you’ll play a vital role in preserving the iconic finish and presentation that defines every Hinckley vessel. The Marine Painter is responsible for the preparation, application, setup, and breakdown of various boats. The ideal candidate will have experience in the marine industry and proficiency in painting techniques and tools. This position is perfect for a detail-oriented professional who takes pride in precision and craftsmanship.  

Responsibilities:

  •  Prepare wood, metal, fiberglass, or other surfaces for painting and varnishing, including topside decks, railings, and fixtures.
  • Protect surrounding surfaces (e.g., decks, hardware, windows) with tape or other methods during work 
  • Perform surface cleaning, sanding, and smoothing using scrapers, sandpaper, steel wool, or chemicals.
  • Apply finish coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer as required, with experience in Gelcoat and Awlgrip products.
  • Perform small repairs to surfaces before painting.
  • Clean brushes and work areas using solvents or soap/water.
  • Set up and dismantle staging areas following OSHA guidelines.
  • Assist customers with paint and varnish-related questions.
  • Work cooperatively with other trades and follow safety and quality procedures

Requirements

  • 2-5+ years in prepping/spraying for automotive or marine applications.
  • 1-3 years of general boatyard experience preferred.
  • Experience with airless spraying.
  • Background in marine, shipyard, or fine construction finish work.
  • Knowledge of common paint brands in the industry.
  • Ability to follow manufacturers’ specifications and uphold high standards of excellence.
