Responsibilities
- This position is intended to be a jack of all trades but has emphasis on skills with maritime equipment and operations. You will be both in the shop and out on the water frequently.
- Responsibilities will vary widely but will generally include:
- Testing – Test components, subsystems and systems in the shop and in the field with limited documentation and procedures.
- Troubleshooting – Troubleshoot systems in the shop and the field with limited documentation and procedures. Interact with engineers to elicit required information and help to improve documentation.
- Maritime Operations – Organize and eventually lead maritime test operations to include deployment, maintenance, and recovery of instrumentation systems from small boats. A captains license is not required but extensive experience with small boat operations is essential.
- Training – Mentor new operators and technicians as Spear grows. Work with engineers and trainers to develop course materials for customer operators, potentially including active-duty military personnel.
- Engineering Interaction – Provide feedback to engineers on designs, durability, documentation, maintainability, and any other relevant aspect of the design. In the future, organize feedback from additional technicians and serve as the focal point for feedback.
- Mechanical Fabrication – Fabricate and assemble mechanical components and systems for sensor systems and buoys.
- Electrical Fabrication – Build wiring harnesses, assemble electrical components, assemble battery packs
Required Qualifications
- Exemplary attention to detail, a focus on quality, and an uncompromising focus on safety.
- Excellent verbal and good written communication skills
- Broad experience with testing both components and systems to include most or all of: system turn on, pressure testing, cable verification, visual inspection, measurement verification.
- Broad maritime operations experience including small boat operations, over-the-side handling, field repair and logistics of a trip to sea.
- Ability to physically participate in at sea deployment, test, and recovery operations including ability to lift, carry, and maneuver on a small boat at sea, communicate verbally, and carry out fine manipulations.

- A USCG captain’s license or extensive experience operating small boats
Desired Qualifications
- Broad experience with mechanical fabrication techniques to include most or all of: additive manufacturing, basic machining, composites, welding and assembly.
- Broad experience with electrical fabrication techniques to include most or all of: wiring harnesses, board population, board repair and battery pack fabrication.
- Prior experience with mechanical cad especially Solidworks
- Prior experience with wiring harness documentation
- Prior leadership experience
- Veteran status or significant familiarity with and comfort in interacting with both enlisted and commissioned military personnel.
