Job Description - Marketing Assistant, Tor

Description Are your favorite stories filled with orcs, dragons, centaurs, goblins, and vampires? Do you wish you could journey to the Cosmere, Four Londons, Marsyas Island - or even Toril? If your TBR is constantly overflowing with science fiction and fantasy, this may be the role for you.
Tor Publishing Group, a division of Macmillan Publishers, is seeking an Assistant, Marketing to join our dynamic team. The Assistant will have a specific focus on the group's flagship imprint Tor Books and will contribute to a variety of title marketing campaigns, from brainstorming to execution, across our diverse list of science fiction and fantasy titles. This position will provide a hands-on opportunity to learn day-to-day marketing activities, best practices, and strategies as well as a runway to take on individually-owned marketing campaigns with supervision. The Assistant will report to the Senior Marketing Manager in addition to working closely with the Director of Marketing. Publishing experience is a plus; a demonstrated interested in books, genre publishing, SFF, and/or fandoms is required.

What you'll do:
Assist title marketers on campaign-related work, including:
Digital outreach to booksellers and librarians
Galley and finished book mailings
Consumer giveaways and promotions
Initiating and drafting copy for designed marketing materials
Updating internal tracking systems

Manage marketing campaigns (with supervision from the Senior Marketing Manager) for assigned titles, including owning: Digital and physical outreach to trade audiences
Consumer buzz-building initiatives like sweepstakes, giveaways, and social media promotions
Creation of designed marketing materials
Internal communication across departments
Author and agent communication as appropriate

Scheduling group meetings, setting agendas, and taking notes for designated meetings, while also participating in group meetings such as brainstorming, seasonal launches, and more
Manage daily administrative tasks for the Senior Marketing Manager and Director of Marketing, as needed

What You'll Bring:
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to work independently on self-directed projects or collaborate as part of a team
Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
An enthusiastic attitude, eagerness to learn, and good sense of humor
Some college or a college-level degree
A love of reading, genre publishing, and/or all things fandom

Ideal Experience:
Publishing experience is a plus
1+ year(s) internship or relevant work experience
Knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)

This role will have an annual salary of $47,500.
