Job Description - Marketing Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY


The Marketing Coordinator supports the VisitLEX marketing team by assisting with the day-to-day coordination of projects, campaigns, and initiatives that promote Lexington as a premier travel destination. This role is a key player in helping the team stay organized, meet deadlines and maintain a high standard of execution across content, events, social media, public relations, and partnership efforts. The ideal candidate is a flexible, proactive team player who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment and is willing to jump in wherever needed.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB



  • Supports the execution of marketing campaigns, content development, social media and promotional initiatives.

  • Assists with asset organization, including managing digital files, photography, logos and marketing collateral.

  • Coordinates and organizes that marketing team's Share Drive and project management system.

  • Drafts and proofread marketing content across platforms (social, email, web, print) for accuracy and tone.

  • Assists with web content updates, including overseeing listings audits verifying that new businesses are added, closed locations are removed, and all guides/landing pages remain fully up-to-date.

  • Provides email support as needed.

  • Coordinate internal project requests from other VisitLEX departments and help route them through the marketing workflow.

  • Assists with organizing and preparing for marketing-related events, photo/video shoots, and partner activations.

  • Collaborates with the Marketing Project Manager to ensure deliverables meet deadlines and brand standards.

  • Supports the marketing team with administrative tasks, meeting scheduling, vendor coordination, and tracking timelines.

  • Assists with the Lexington Hospitality Awards program and support as needed.

  • Assists with Partner Outreach, including support in the planning and execution of the Attractions Gatherings.

  • Supports hosting journalists in the market as needed.

    Assists with identifying areas for improvement and making constructive changes.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to respond to clients in an efficient and accurate manner.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong written and verbal skills.

  • Strong technical skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva) and the ability to learn new skills.

  • Experience with social media platforms and a basic understanding of digital marketing tools.

  • Ability to work well on a team.

  • Ability to collaborate with the sales and marketing teams.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of company and customer records.

  • Credibility, flexibility, and adaptability.




EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS



  • Two (2) years of experience in the marketing, communications or in an administrative support role.

  • Previous internship or experience in tourism, hospitality or nonprofit marketing a plus.
     


EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, hospitality or related field preferred.

  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.

  • Possesses valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.


 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB



  • Frequently communicates with employees and customers in person, on the telephone, and on the computer.

  • Frequently remains in a sitting position at a desk to perform customer service duties.

  • Frequently uses the computer with fingers and hands.

  • Frequently works in a well-lit, tempered room.

  • Occasionally drives motor vehicle to visit and call upon customers.

  • Occasionally exposed to outside elements when participating in business functions.

  • Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds when moving supplies and inventory.

  • May be required to stoop, bend, or kneel.

  • May be required to work evenings/weekends for events or media hosting.
