Job Description - Marketing Manager (Level Depending on Experience)

The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and leading the marketing strategy and tactics to drive business growth for STEM disciplines. The Marketing Manager will develop and execute an annual marketing plan that focuses on go-to-market strategies including sales enablement, marketing communications into all channels, and developing customer engagement strategies. Other responsibilities may include execution of market research and presenting insights, working on cross-functional projects. This role does not have managerial responsibilities.

Major Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

Travel to campus, company meetings, and conferences and events. For campus and customer-focused travel, the Marketing Manager helps the rep assess the sales situation and position Macmillan products and services for success. The Marketing Manager meets with key faculty, prepares/delivers presentations, and answers specific product questions to help move customers through the funnel. Travel can also include company meetings such as Marketing Planning, and/or conferences and special events.
Data analysis. The Marketing Manager uses marketing and sales analytics to inform decisions and campaigns. This may include analysis for market research, customer personas, segmentation and targeting, and tactical performance.
The Marketing Manager develops and executes all aspects of the marketing program for STEM disciplines, portfolio may vary. This role will set the marketing direction, perform market research, and implement direct marketing activities to generate customer engagement and activity. The Marketing Manager will also assess and report on campaign activity and results and make recommendations to improve results. Additionally, this role will make recommendations to editorial/media partners for product development or improvement. It is also expected that the Marketing Manager will collaborate across departments to expand customer outreach and engagement, both to move customers through the marketing funnel, and to add new customers to the funnel. The Marketing Manager will take initiative to share ideas, train colleagues, and develop strategies and outcomes with the other discipline marketing managers.
The Marketing Manager collaborates with college sales, editorial, product, digital marketing, and other stakeholders to maximize STEM revenue by: (i) creating an agenda, coaching presenters, and leading training sessions during in-person or virtual National Sales Meetings as well as on-demand trainings/certifications; (ii) creating or initiating the creation of sales tools to support selling efforts; (iii) developing and managing relationships with key customers and thought influencers; and (iv) achieving sales and marketing goals. (v) Collaborate with other stakeholders to develop onboarding program/ongoing customer trainings and support.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.
Minimum of two years of publishing or related sales or marketing experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skill.
Ability to travel nationally up to ten weeks a year.
Familiarity with Generative AI tools to develop marketing tactics and collateral.
Core competency with data-management systems and ability to analyze data to track and inform campaign and portfolio performance.
Understanding and application of key product marketing concepts.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to think creatively and strategically.
Work collaboratively across various department and groups.
Analytical thinker and problem solver.
Customer focused.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in higher education or educational technology
Prior STEM field experience
Prior experience with Salesforce CRM
Experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring results from sales/marketing campaigns
Ability to multi-task and self-organize

Salary Range: $75,000-$80,000/year

Exemption status: Exempt

Physical Requirements:

This position requires periods of concentration, must be able to multi-task, must be able to travel occasionally. It may be required to lift 35lbs of books when setting up for sales meetings or conferences. Working on laptop or computer for sustained periods of time to respond to sales or author inquiries, as well as to create marketing materials to aid in sales efforts.

The Senior Marketing Manager will develop and execute an annual marketing plan that focuses on go-to-market strategies including sales enablement, marketing communications into all channels, and developing customer engagement strategies. Other responsibilities may include execution of market research and presenting insights, working on cross-functional projects. This role manages other employees.

The Marketing Manager and the Senior Marketing Manager are both eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.

This position will be filled at the level of Marketing Manager, or Senior Marketing Manager depending on experience.
