Job Description - Marksmanship Simulator Senior Training and Development Specialist

We are seeking a Marksmanship Simulator Senior Training and Development Specialist to provide leadership for and oversight of Engagement Skills Trainer (EST) II training personnel for Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion aboard Fort Jackson, SC.

So, what will the Marksmanship Simulator Senior Training and Development Specialist at Terrestris do?

The EST II is a training system that supports primarily basic rifle marksmanship (BRM) instruction as a part of Initial Entry Training (IET). Additional instruction supported includes advanced rifle marksmanship training, and tactical decision-making scenarios for IET and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) Soldiers, unit/installation cadre, and mobilizing/deploying units and Soldiers. As the Engagement Skills Trainer Senior Training and Development Specialist, you will supervise training operations, support unit readiness objectives, develop and deliver training plans, and ensure optimal system performance for simulated marksmanship and tactical scenarios. As the EST Lead you will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in virtual marksmanship training and will act as the primary liaison between training units, site management, and support staff.

What does a typical day look like for the Marksmanship Simulator Senior Training and Development Specialist?

You will:

    • Lead and mentor a team of EST operators and instructors.
    • Coordinate with military unit leaders to plan and execute effective training sessions
    • Ensure compliance with Army training doctrine, safety standards, and local policies.
    • Design, implement, and evaluate marksmanship and collective training programs using EST.
    • Conduct instructional sessions and provide subject matter expertise on weapons handling, marksmanship fundamentals, and tactical decision-making.
    • Customize training scenarios to meet unit-specific mission requirements.
    • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot EST systems, including weapons simulators and AAR (After Action Review) tools.
    • Ensure software and hardware are updated, operational, and aligned with the Army’s training objectives.
    • Coordinate with system contractors or support teams for technical escalation as needed.
    • Maintain detailed records of training schedules, attendance, performance metrics, and system logs.
    • Provide regular reports to leadership on training effectiveness, system readiness, and maintenance activities.
    • Assist in the preparation of briefings, SOPs, and policy documentation related to EST use.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the professional we’re looking for if you have:

  • The ability to work in the U.S. permanently without sponsorship.
  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, both in writing and speaking.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate the following weapon simulators: M16, M4, M9, M2, M320, M240B, M249, MK19, M141, M1200 and AT4.
  • Familiarity with Army weapons systems and qualification standards (e.g., TC 3-20.40, FM 3-22.9).
  • Experience operating or instructing with the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST) 2000 or EST II preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic IT troubleshooting for networked and computer-based systems.
  • A minimum of (3) years of experience in Army training or related military instructional roles.
  • Experience operating and managing Engagement Skills Trainer (EST 2000/II/II MTT) systems.
  • Strong understanding of Army Training Management System (ATMS), marksmanship doctrine, and training circulars (e.g., TC 3-20.40).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Excellent interpersonal, briefing, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead small teams and interface directly with unit leadership and training personnel.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

We are extra impressed by folks with:

  • Prior service in a military leadership position (e.g., NCO, Warrant Officer, or Officer).
  • Prior military experience (Army preferred), ideally with background in marksmanship, range operations, or weapons instruction.
  • Army Instructor Certification (e.g., SGI, TAIS, or T3 qualified).
  • Previous experience working with virtual training systems or simulations-based instruction.
  • Knowledge of Live, Virtual, Constructive – Integrating Architecture (LVC-IA) training environments.
  • Experience supporting Army Reserve, National Guard, or Active Duty training events.
