As part of YAMA’s wellness and youth development initiatives, we are seeking a Martial Arts Instructor to lead classes focused on discipline, confidence, and physical well-being.

The ideal candidate will specialize in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Taekwondo, or a similar martial art, and will have experience teaching students of varying ages and skill levels in a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment.

Job Description:

The Martial Arts Instructor will design and lead engaging martial arts classes that promote physical fitness, self-defense skills, discipline, and character development. This position plays an essential role in fostering a positive learning atmosphere where participants—particularly youth—can grow in both skill and confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct martial arts classes for youth and/or adults, emphasizing self-discipline, respect, and safety.
  • Teach fundamental techniques and forms of Jiu-Jitsu and/or Taekwondo appropriate for beginners through intermediate students.
  • Maintain class structure, discipline, and positive engagement throughout sessions.
  • Ensure proper warm-up, stretching, and cooldown routines to prevent injury.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage improvement.
  • Promote YAMA’s values of inclusion, community, and cultural pride within the program.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of training areas and equipment.
  • Assist with program events, demonstrations, or community workshops as needed.
  • Uphold a high standard of safety and professionalism in all interactions with participants.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of martial arts teaching experience (formal or informal).
  • Certification or black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, Taekwondo, or another martial arts discipline required.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills; ability to work effectively with youth and adults.
  • Commitment to building confidence and positive character through martial arts training.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Bilingual (Arabic and English) a plus.
  • Experience working in a community or nonprofit setting is highly desirable.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly Rate: $25 – $35 per hour, based on experience and certifications.
  • Flexible scheduling (evenings and weekends may be required).
  • Opportunity to grow with YAMA’s community wellness and youth programs.
