Material Handler

Position Summary

Miller Chemical & Fertilizer Corporation was founded in Baltimore, MD, in 1937. In the early 1960’s the company started to develop specialty products and globally recognized brand names. The Material Handler will report to the Plant Supervisor. Miller Chemical takes pride in working as a team and has various job duties in this classification. The associate will be properly trained in each job duty.  The Material Handler is an entry level position for associates without experience. All job duties can be performed with about 1-3 days of training     

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Labeling/Stenciling-
•    Ability to proficiently stencil or hand label with self-adhesive labels for cartons, bottles and bags

Check Weighing-
•    Ability to read the weigh scale to make sure the product is within company standards

Bottle Packer-
•    Ability to lift and pack desired product at standard production rate

Bottle Labeler-
•    Ability to place bottles through bottle labeling machine at the standard production rate

Stacker-
•    Ability to stack bags, balers and cartons at the standard production rate

Major Challenges: 

The associate must be able to do the following

• Ability to read and interpret written information


• Have good communication and organizational skills 


• Ability to work quickly and complete the work in a timely manner to meet productivity standards.


• Add input to improve productivity for all the job duties mentioned above

Decision Making Authority:  

The associate must be able to do the following 
•    Need to demonstrate accuracy
•    Monitor own work and ensure quality, bag or machine speeds, etc. 
•    Consistently be at work and at their work station in a timely manner during operational hours until proper relief arrives
•    Take responsibility for their own actions 
•    Work well as a team with others
•    Follow company policies and procedures
•    Ability to apply common sense while using the equipment and materials properly

The associate may be asked to perform other tasks by the Production Team Lead, or the Batch Mixing operator associates, in addition to his or her's Supervisor.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

The associate must be able to do the following
•    Basic Math skills; add and subtract
•    Follow instruction from others
•    Listen and get clarification 
•    Use time efficiently
•    Notify the Supervisor of any issues or concerns regarding equipment or disruption of the work flow

Physical Requirements

The associate is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. She or He must have the ability to consistently lift or move up to 60 pounds

Working Conditions:

The associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts while performing job duties and while performing these duties the associate is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel/reach with arms. The associate must also be able to do the following

• Ability to work overtime to meet company needs


• Ability to adapt to change in the work environment
