Job Description - Materials and Kit Specialist



Freeman Boatworks builds the world’s finest offshore fishing boats. We blend innovation, craftsmanship, and performance in every vessel. 

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Material & Kit Specialist to join our production team. This role is critical to ensuring our boat manufacturing process runs smoothly by keeping line-side kits complete, accurate, and ready for use. The right candidate will serve as the link between the warehouse and shop floor, ensuring parts are available, kits are maintained, and production efficiency is supported. 

What You’ll Do 

Kit Management & Accuracy 

  • Track all line-side kits required for each production department 
  • Ensure kits are complete and updated with newly delivered parts 
  • Communicate with the warehouse team on out-of-stock or backordered parts 
  • Audit kits regularly with floor employees to confirm accuracy 

BOM & Inventory Support 

  • Work closely with production teams to identify and correct Bill of Materials (BOM) inaccuracies 
  • Provide feedback to improve future BOM accuracy and reduce shortages or overages 
  • Coordinate with purchasing and warehouse teams to maintain steady part flow

Workplace Organization & Efficiency 

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient line-side environment 
  • Implement best practices for tool and part placement to reduce downtime 
  • Support continuous improvement efforts for kit preparation and delivery 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, inventory, or materials handling preferred 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail 
  • Comfortable collaborating across multiple departments (purchasing, warehouse, production) 
  • Familiarity with boat electronics and general hardware is a plus!  

Work Environment & Physical Requirements 

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing setting with regular exposure to dust, fumes, vibration, and noise 
  • PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection may be required 
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods, with some bending, lifting, kneeling, or crouching 
  • Must be able to move up to 50 pounds
