Materials & Process Engineer I, II, or III

Salary Range: $80,750 - $150,000/year

Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Materials & Processes, a Materials & Process (M&P) Engineer I is responsible for being able to perform the below functions while assisted. Responsibilities are surrounding the product and process development of aluminum, titanium, and nickel superalloy open and closed die forgings and seamless rolled rings, product and process failure analysis and improvement, and supplier and customer technical support.

Core Responsibilities: 

• Obtains a clear understanding of all internal and external requirements relating to M&P Engineer functions.


• Participates in internal audits, Kaizen events, Lean improvements, Six Sigma, and 6S projects when required.


• Participates in customer, Nadcap, and AS9100 audits as required, including leading responses to relevant non-conformances.


• Acts as technical liaison with customers and suppliers

Product Development Function:

• Provides metallurgical definition of new products


• Accountable for forging, heat treat, and destructive testing planning, ensuring compliance to customer requirements, including approval of the forging routing  


• Creates heat treat and test plans.


• Accountable for Process Procedures and First Article Packages


• Performs part-specific audits to ensure compliance with customer requirements

Process Development Function:

• Reviews, communicates, and implements customers’ material, heat treatment, and destructive testing specifications to ensure Weber’s continuous compliance with customer/industry requirements.


• Develops and implements forging, heat treat, and destructive testing processes, including training affected personnel and documenting in Quality Work Instructions


• Accountable for the Change Management System, including reviewing and approving changes against external and internal requirements


• Participates in Round Robin / Gage R&R studies


• Supports supplier selection by coordinating supplier-qualifying testing

Material Review Board (MRB) Function:

• Reviews and provides disposition for metallurgical and thermal process non-conformances in the forging, heat treat, ultrasonic, and destructive test processes.


• Reviews preliminary results and provides disposition for captive lab testing, including but not limited to, metallography and mechanical testing.  


• Performs statistical analysis of available data to identify trends, interactions, and key process control parameters to provide solutions for metallurgical non-conformances.


• Performs R&D studies to develop solutions for metallurgical non-conformances.


• Works in a cross-functional engineering team to analyze scrap and non-conformance trend data and works collaborate to develop and implement improvement methods to reduce occurrences.

Qualifications:

• Must be able to comply with ITAR and EAR residency requirements


• Strong communication skills and ability to interface with all levels within Weber Metals


• Ability to multitask and provide results in a timely manner as well as adjust plans under changing circumstances.


• Promotes a team atmosphere and builds harmonious working relationships both within and outside the department.


• Strong computer skills, word processing, and spreadsheets


• Determination to develop and implement solutions to resolve problems.

Education/Experience:

• B.S. degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering or other closely related field.


• 0 to 3 years Metallurgy or Materials & Process Engineering experience, or equivalent
