Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position teaches sensory impaired students in a state-mandated academic program.

• Conduct and direct student learning experiences using written lesson plans that cover the requirements of the State with regard to the Current Florida Curriculum Standards and course descriptions; Use required instructional materials with fidelity to introduce and develop concepts; Develop and maintain a classroom management program; Identify/develop, implement, use, monitor and evaluate long and short term objectives based on students' IEPs; Analyze and utilize student data to drive instruction; Monitor student progress based on the goals of the IEP, and FSDB and State mandated objectives; Record and report data on individual students, i.e, keep grade books, report cards, progress monitoring reports, incident reports, interim reports, attendance records, etc; Document and correct disruptive student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures; Maintain a professional relationship with students, parents and other staff members.


• Attend trainings/meetings and implement skills acquired during professional development activities as required by Federal, State and FSDB mandates.


• Other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of the educational needs of deaf/hard-of-hearing and/or blind/visually impaired students;


• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communications;


• Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of teaching;

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of curriculum development;


• Ability to teach individuals in a classroom setting using the principles of differentiated instruction;


• Ability to prepare teaching plans, courses, activities and learning experiences for a variety of students;

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in related field.


• Current state of Florida educator certification in Math 6-12 and Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire.

Teachers may be hired with current state of Florida educator certification in Math 6-12, with the understanding that certification in Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing K-12 must be earned within a specified period of time.

Teachers may be hired with current state of Florida educator certification in Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing, with the understanding that certification in Math 6-12 must be earned within a specified period of time.

If certification noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time.

Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an advanced proficiency in sign language within one year of hire.

Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

Hiring Salary Range: 10-month position (190 Days): $53,950.00 - $57,550.00 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience. Employees shall receive compensation for higher education beyond a bachelor’s degree as noted below.

Master’s Degree: additional $2,400

Master’s +30, or 2nd Master’s Degree, or Education Specialist, or Doctorate Degree: additional $2,400

Employees may earn any combination of degrees and receive that amount. Only one degree in each category will apply.

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 3:30pm
