Job Description - Math Tutor (Small Group Instruction) - Richmond, CA SY25

 

     

Job Title:  Blueprint AmeriCorps Math Fellow (AmeriCorps Member)
Department: Blueprint Math Fellows Program
Employment Status/hours: In-Person; Full-time; Monday - Friday (traditional school day hours)
Length of Service: Academic school year plus initial training. Start*: Late July/Early August  End*: Late May/Early June.  *Start and end dates vary slightly depending on school calendars
Reports to:  Site Manager/Associate Site Manager
 

Blueprint AmeriCorps Eligible Compensation

  • Living Stipend $33,000* (*prorated based on start date) for 1 academic school year plus initial training (approximately 10 months for a full academic school year) 
  • Segal Education Award valued at $7,395.00**  to use on future educational expenses or to pay back qualified student loans after you successfully complete your term of service. The value is dependent on length of service. Members 55+ are eligible to transfer their Education Award to a family member. **prorated based on start date
  • Forbearance for federally backed student loans; after you successfully complete your term of service, you are eligible to have the interest incurred during service paid in full
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP Benefits)

POSITION SUMMARY

As a full or part-time AmeriCorps member, you'll provide personalized small-group math instruction during the school day, working closely with 4-8 students at a time. Our Fellows collaborate with teachers to boost academic achievement and build strong student relationships, fostering self-confidence and a love for learning beyond the classroom. 

Blueprint AmeriCorps Math Fellows tailor lessons to small groups of students, ensuring each individual receives the attention they need to excel. Our approach fosters collaboration, allowing students to share ideas and explore concepts in a supportive atmosphere. Through personalized instruction, we ignite students' passion for learning and equip them with essential skills for success, nurturing critical thinking, effective communication, and a growth mindset.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fellow responsibilities include: Planning, Instruction, Communication & Feedback, and Compliance. Examples of duties within these categories include:

Planning

  • Fellows implement predetermined curriculum through daily and weekly lesson plans, assisting students in mastering academic skills and assessments. They collaborate with teachers and site managers to align tutorial lessons with classroom instruction

Instruction

  • Fellows deliver structured lessons to foster discussion and understanding, adapting their approach to the Core model or collaborating with teachers. They engage in collaborative lesson planning with managers and peers, ensuring coverage for absences to maintain continuity. Additionally, they aid students in goal-setting, foster relationships, assess performance regularly, and adjust instruction based on assessment data, all while utilizing varied instructional strategies tailored to student needs.

Communication & Feedback

  • Fellows regularly engage with management and peers for coaching and feedback, while also maintaining communication with students' families regarding academic progress. Actively participate in professional development opportunities and promptly respond to emails and communications during the school day..

Time Entry Requirements

  • Fellows are expected to complete 1700 service hours as AmeriCorps Members during the academic year, with tutoring time counted towards this requirement. They must enter service hours by established deadlines and utilize the ADP system for timekeeping, adhering to Blueprint's guidelines and policies.  Completing the 1700 hours of service makes the Fellow eligible for certain AmeriCorps benefits, such as the Segal Education Award.

Compliance

  • Blueprint AmeriCorps Math Fellows are expected to adhere to organizational policies outlined in the Handbook, seeking clarification from the Human Capital team or Site Manager if needed. Punctuality is crucial, ensuring attendance at all scheduled work, training sessions, and meetings to maintain the quality of instruction and foster student relationships. Fellows must also attend Blueprint and school/district-required training, follow behavior rules and policies, and maintain student confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL REQUIRED (Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately)

  • U.S. citizen; AmeriCorps members are required to be U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents  (AmeriCorps requirement).
  • Age 18 or over (AmeriCorps requirement).
  • Have previously completed no more than three terms of service through AmeriCorps state and national programs (AmeriCorps requirement)
  • Currently enrolled in an associate’s degree program; or previously enrolled in an associate’s degree program;  or completed an associates degree or higher required. 
  • Proficiency in foundational math concepts to effectively support grade levels served and guide students in understanding and mastering mathematical principles.
  • Experience working with adolescents, tutoring, or mentoring youth (or related field) is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and affirming the belief that all students can succeed

Blueprint AmeriCorps Math Fellows are required to complete and successfully clear the pre-employment background screening process for Blueprint and partner schools/districts before the start of training.
