Program: Home Delivered Meals Program (HDM)

Supervisor: Culinary Services Manager

Job Status: Full Time/ Non-Exempt

Job Hours: 35 hours per week/ On-Site

Location: Midtown Manhattan

Compensation: $28 per hour/ $50,960 annually

About Position: The Meal Packing Supervisor manages the day-to-day operations of the meal packaging department. The Meal Packing Supervisor will be responsible for production oversight, quality control, food safety and compliance and inventory management of all meal packing. This role also involves supervising and and supporting staff, ensuring the accurate and timely packaging of meal kits, maintaining high standards of food safety, and ensuring that production targets are met.

Responsibilities:

· Monitor the meal packing process to ensure all meals are packed according to specifications;

· Ensure packing lines are running efficiently, and packaging materials are adequately stocked;

· Implement and maintain production targets, ensuring all goals are met within deadlines;

· Coordinate with other departments (e.g., inventory, cooking, logistics) to ensure smooth workflow;

· Ensure all meals meet quality standards before packing, including portion control, labeling, and appearance;

· Perform regular inspections of the meal packing area and equipment for cleanliness and compliance with food safety standards;

· Responsible for transporting meals from Encore’s Older Adult Center’s sites;

· Assist with placing inventory orders for meals and cold packs;

· Address any product quality issues and work to continuously improve the packaging process.

· Guarantee compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including food safety standards (HACCP, FDA, etc.);

· Oversee proper handling and storage of food items to prevent contamination or spoilage;

· Ensure all staff follow safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE);

· Work with the inventory department to ensure packaging materials (e.g., containers, labels, and seals) are always available;

· Track and manage waste levels, working to minimize food and packaging material waste;

· Identify areas for operational improvement and implement process enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce costs;

· Stay updated on industry trends and innovations in food packaging to introduce best practices;

· Occasional Saturdays as needed;

· Other duties as assigned.

Supervision and Team Management

· Lead, train, and supervise a team of meal packing staff, ensuring they meet production and quality standards;

· Schedule shifts and manage labor to meet production goals;

· Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff;

· Address and manage staff issues or conflicts that may arise;

· Other duties as assigned. 

Administrative Tasks

· Maintain accurate records of production, employee hours, and quality control checks;

· Generate reports for senior management on production output, issues, and staff performance;

· Ensure that meal kits are properly labeled and comply with labeling regulations (e.g., ingredients, nutritional info, expiration dates);

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

 Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED);
  • Must possess a valid New York State or residential state Driver’s License;
  • Must have a clean driving record with no DUI/DWI or other major violations;
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills;
  • Strong work ethic with a roll-up your sleeves model;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and follow directions;
  • Team player, Work well with others in a team like environment;
  • Knowledgeable in the use of all kitchen utensils and equipment;
  • Well organized; 
  • Be Punctual and professional;
  • Exhibit sensitivity to the needs of the elderly.

Physical Requirements:

  • Have the ability to lift and carry heavy objects a minimum of 50 pounds, including cases of fresh, frozen or canned food items, packed delivery bags as well as filled commercial grade pots or trays in and out of ovens;
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time both for meal packing and meal packing area cleaning.
