Mechanic

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Public Works

(Teamsters Local Union 205)

VALID CLASS "A" CDL REQUIRED (Necessary to operate/move GCWR over 26,000 lbs.)

ROLE SUMMARY 

Borough mechanics are responsible for maintaining and repairing all Borough vehicles and mechanical equipment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform skilled mechanic work.

• 
  Perform state vehicle inspections and necessary emissions testing at required intervals within 30 days of inspection expiration.


• 
  Conduct vehicle and equipment safety inspections on a regular basis.


• 
  Repair and maintain Borough vehicles and equipment including cars, trucks, and construction and snow removal equipment.


• 
  Repair or replace parts as necessary.


• 
  Perform preventative maintenance on all Borough vehicles.


• 
  Troubleshoot problems.


• 
  Maintain lawn mowers and other grounds equipment.


• 
  Other duties as assigned.

Maintain accurate records and paperwork.

• 
  Complete a repair order within 24 hours of all repairs performed.


• 
  Keep maintenance and repair records.


• 
  Make reports to highway patrol regarding state inspections.


• 
  Utilize purchase order system to order new parts.

Operate related hand and power tools and materials.

• 
  Operate crack welding equipment.


• 
  Utilize electronic vehicle diagnostic equipment to discover problems.

Other

• 
  Additional tasks as requested by the Borough Manager and Director of Public works.


• 
  Occasionally perform custodial tasks.


• 
  Complete frequent activity reports.


• 
  Additional functions as related to job assignment.


• 
  Required to submit to random drug testing.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE)

• 
  High school diploma or GED equivalent


• 
  Five years of experience in a public works or related field involving the maintenance and repair of light trucks, heavy construction equipment, and other automobiles.

  Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and a valid Class A CDL.

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electric shock.  The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
