Mechanic

Job Purpose

The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing company vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe, reliable, and compliant with operational and regulatory requirements. The role supports uninterrupted transportation operations by minimizing breakdowns and downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections, servicing, and preventive maintenance on company vehicles (trucks, buses, light vehicles, trailers, and equipment).
  


• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults and carry out timely repairs.
  


• Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, gearboxes, brakes, suspension systems, steering, and exhaust systems.
  


• Perform breakdown repairs and emergency roadside assistance when required.
  


• Ensure all vehicles meet safety, legal, and company standards before release for operation.
  


• Identify potential safety issues and recommend corrective actions.
  


• Comply with QHSE policies, traffic regulations, and workshop safety procedures.
  


• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and repair reports.
  


• Record spare parts usage and report any major defects or recurring issues.
  


• Provide feedback to the Fleet Manager on vehicle condition and maintenance needs.
  


• Keep the workshop clean, organized, and safe at all times.
  


• Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and diagnostic devices.
  


• Coordinate with drivers and operations staff to schedule maintenance and repairs efficiently.
  


• Support junior mechanics or apprentices where applicable.
  

Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  


• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a mechanic, preferably in a transportation or fleet environment.
  


• Experience working on heavy commercial vehicles (trucks/buses) is an added advantage.
