We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Mechanic Shop Manager to oversee shop operations, coordinate closely with our Assembly Team, and ensure our mechanics and welders are focused on the highest-priority work. This role is critical to keeping projects on schedule, meeting exacting quality standards, and supporting Nomad’s mission to deliver world-class solutions to our customers. The Mechanic Shop Manager will manage daily shop activities, lead a talented team of mechanics and welders, and serve as the primary link between the shop floor and the Assembly Team. This role requires strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of mechanical and fabrication processes, and the ability to proactively sequence and prioritize work. The position also includes reviewing technical drawings, verifying requirements, and clearly communicating the Statement of Work (SOW) to ensure efficient and accurate execution.



Responsibilities:
•    Lead, schedule, and supervise all mechanics and welders to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work.
•    Coordinate daily with the Assembly Team to align shop priorities with production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
•    Review technical drawings, schematics, and build documentation to verify accuracy, identify required materials, and clarify build details with engineering.
•    Prioritize and communicate the Statement of Work for each project so the team is working on the most critical tasks in the correct sequence.
•    Review project timelines and assign work based on skill sets, availability, and urgency.
•    Monitor progress and adjust assignments to keep critical path items on schedule.
•    Ensure all mechanical, welding, and fabrication work meets Nomad quality standards and industry best practices.
•    Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, enforcing Nomad’s safety policies.
•    Track and manage shop tools, equipment, and materials, coordinating with procurement as needed.
•    Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and hands-on assistance when required.
•    Evaluate team performance, provide coaching, and recommend training or process improvements.
•    Partner with leadership to identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks.



Basic Knowledge Desired:
•    Demonstrate understanding and application of Nomad Core Values.
•    Strong understanding of mechanical systems, welding, and fabrication processes.
•    Proven ability to coordinate multi-skilled teams and manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
•    Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work orders.
•    Strong understanding of Statements of Work (SOW) and how to sequence tasks for efficient execution.
•    Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
•    Working knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a shop environment.
•    Proficiency with scheduling tools, work order systems, or ERP/MRP systems preferred.



Physical Demands:
•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
•    The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and is occasionally required to sit.
•    The employee must frequently lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything heavier than 50 pounds will require two people to lift / carry.
•    Specific vision abilities required by this job including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish individual colors



Working Environment:
•    Fast-paced environment, open-concept office area, interacts regularly with Production.
•    The work environment is a partially environmentally controlled indoor environment. Depending upon the time of year, temperatures can fluctuate between 60F and 100F but is typically around 70F. There are times when working outside will be required.
•    The employee may be subjected to noise levels, ranging from low volume to loud and will be required to wear provided safety hearing devices from time to time, which will be provided.
•    The employee will be exposed to a variety of household/commercial chemicals that will require the employee to follow company rules/regulations outlined by that SDS.
•    All Team Members must wear provided OSHA approved eye protection at all times in manufacturing areas. The employee will be required to wear provided safety eyewear throughout the performance of their duties.
•    This position requires traveling at least 10% of the time to multiple Nomad locations.



Qualifications & Experience:


•    5+ years’ experience in a mechanic, fabrication, or heavy equipment repair environment; at least 2 years in a leadership role.
•    Experience in upfit installations, tire installations and inventory management preferred.
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in the description may be substituted for the above requirements.
•    Valid driver’s license in good standing.
