NICTD intends to hire a full time Mechanical Department Trainer to perform training, qualification, and oversight duties within its Mechanical Department. Duties include, but are not limited to, terminal carman student training, terminal carman certification, EETS officer, GCOR training and testing, hours of service instruction, SLE responsibilities concerning terminal carmen including ride checks, and other managerial and safety enforcement duties as assigned. This person may also be required to serve as a hearing or investigation officer from time to time. Must have and maintain valid locomotive and motor vehicle operating licenses.
Position Requirements: NICTD is only accepting applications at this time from current NICTD employees. The following are some of the skills that will be considered in the selection of candidates for interviews:
Applicants are advised that this is a management position. Information within their NICTD personnel and attendance files may be considered as a factor in the final selection decision. Persons offered the position are subject to a post-offer physical examination (including drug and alcohol screening tests) and background evaluation (review of felony and trust related criteria).
Supervision: The position reports to the Chief Mechanical Officer.
Salary and Benefits: The salary for this position is expected to be is $80,500 per year. Life insurance, paid vacation, paid holidays, comp time, limited free travel on NICTD trains for self and family, supplemental pension plan, and medical/dental/vision health benefits are provided. The position is subject to pension benefits and contribution obligations administered by the Railroad Retirement Board. Details are available during the interview process.
Physical Demands: The position requires the employee to perform duties and essential functions comparable to a terminal carman, shop carman, and front line railroad supervisor. This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to walk, sit, talk, and listen. There is frequent use of hands to prepare reports and sign documents. Vision requirements include close vision, distant vision, no color blindness, and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations will be considered if presented.
Work Environment: The employee occasionally may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level ranges from quiet to moderately loud.
