As a Design Engineer at a cutting-edge composite facility, you will contribute directly to the design, analysis, testing, and building of composite pressure vessels and composite structures for our growing space, military, aircraft, and commercial customers. We are currently looking for individuals with a proven track record of composites design, solid customer skills, and a passion for hands on innovation and problem solving. Including: Visit and work with customers and our internal Business Development team to generate conceptual designs, definitize requirements, and develop cost estimates for new hardware. Design, analyze and test composite pressure vessels and structures developing conceptual designs into mature product solutions. Attend conferences and trade shows to advance technical skills and market intelligence. Function as program manager to execute smaller programs to allocated cost and schedule requirements while meeting customer needs. Interface with suppliers and in house production teams throughout life of products. Support the site as needed including developing new manufacturing processes, dispositioning nonconformances, troubleshooting product issues, responding to corrective actions, and incorporating any producibility lessons learned through drawing revisions. Manage technical risk through exhaustive identification, prioritization of risk mitigation activities, and data driven design changes where appropriate. Work to Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles including careful management of Critical to Quality requirements through the design lifecycle, rigorous knowledge building of the design space, understanding of the effects of manufacturing variation, and design for manufacturing and assembly to meet product recurring cost targets. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Material Science or related field from an accredited institution. Must be authorized to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now or in the future. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Formal training or experience in the design and analysis of composite parts including classical laminated plate theory, mechanics of materials, and Finite Element analysis Experience working with composite materials or adhesives in a work or extracurricular activity Position Criteria: Demonstrated technical skills working with a cross-functional team. Ability to work mostly autonomously but with some oversite from a technical leader or engineering manager. Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration with internal and external customers. Have sound problem resolution, judgment, and decision-making skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to function in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary engineering environment including frequent direct interaction with production personnel. Understanding of drawing standards and application of GD&T Demonstrated track record of successfully applying several of the following engineering principles: Aerospace new product introduction methods, regulatory standards. regulations. DFSS or Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools Material testing including interpretation of results.
