Position Summary
OPEX Corporation is looking for a Mechanical Designer to work at our World Headquarters in Moorestown, NJ. We are looking for a Designer who is able to commit to a full time schedule on first shift. We are looking for dependable, organized, mechanically skilled candidates for this opening. Qualifications/Responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical design functions with consideration for cost, manufacturability, fabrication methods, assembly, serviceability, reliability, and long-term machine performance.
- Proficiency in using Autodesk Inventor and other 3D CAD systems is required.
- Full understanding of design deliverables set forth by Mechanical Engineers, including parts, assemblies, drawings, BOMs, design updates, and production release documentation.
- Willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks from concept through design completion, prototype build, testing, design revision, and production release.
- Demonstrated ability to manage his/her own schedule while working closely with Mechanical Engineers to set proper priorities and meet project milestones.
- Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely updates to Mechanical Engineers, Managers, and Project Coordinators when applicable.
- Willingness to seek out information when needed, including working directly with engineers, technicians, machinists, assemblers, production personnel, and other departments to gather the information required to complete the task.
- Work closely with all engineering disciplines, seek out input, strive for design consensus, and meet project goals.
- Demonstrated ability to participate in and support design reviews with adequate preparation, including understanding the goal of the review, presenting design intent clearly, documenting feedback, and identifying next actions.
- Demonstrated ability to dimension parts properly while keeping cost, fabrication, inspection, assembly, and serviceability in mind. Show consistency in dimensioning practices.
- Ability and willingness to perform hands-on design validation, including installing parts, checking fit and alignment, testing form, fit, and function, identifying design issues, and making necessary design improvements before informing the Mechanical Engineer of completion.
- Ability and willingness to work hands-on with prototype and production equipment, including assisting with machine builds, mechanical assembly, adjustments, troubleshooting, and design verification.
- Ability and willingness to fabricate, modify, rework, or assist in the fabrication of prototype components, brackets, guards, fixtures, test stands, and other mechanical parts as needed to prove out designs.
- Ability to use basic shop tools, hand tools, measuring tools, and fabrication equipment as appropriate for the role, while following all applicable safety procedures.
- Ability to evaluate parts and assemblies in the physical machine environment, not solely in CAD, to confirm that designs are practical, buildable, serviceable, and robust.
- Understand and utilize CAD software using top-down design techniques.
- Prepare and maintain BOMs, assembly drawings, part drawings, and related documentation prior to production release.
- Proficiency in utilizing an MRP system.
- Ability to work with other departments during product development, prototype testing, production ramp-up, and field-support activities.
- Must have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced engineering and manufacturing environment.
Physical/Work Environments
- Employee will work in both an office/design environment and a hands-on engineering/manufacturing environment.
- Role requires regular interaction with production floor, prototype build areas, test areas, machine assembly areas, and fabrication areas for observation, measurement, installation, troubleshooting, and design validation.
- Employee must be comfortable working directly on automated machinery and mechanical systems during prototype builds, design prove-out, testing, debug, and production ramp-up.
- Work may include hands-on mechanical assembly, part installation, fit checks, adjustments, basic fabrication, rework, measurement, and testing of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Employee must be able to safely use common hand tools, measuring tools, and basic shop/fabrication tools as required for prototype development and design validation.
- Employee will be required to sit for extended periods while performing CAD/design work.
- Employee will also be required to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, kneel, crouch, and work around machinery when supporting builds, tests, troubleshooting, and production activities.
- Some walking between facilities is required.
- Employee will frequently lift up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical equipment, shop tools, fabrication equipment, and active machine builds.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment may be required when working in manufacturing, fabrication, testing, or machine assembly areas.

Hourly rate will be $32 - $36, based on experience.
