Our West + LATAM Healthcare team is looking for an Associate, Mechanical Engineering Lead to join our multi‑disciplinary team anchored in Houston. We are known for designing innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients throughout the United States and sometimes globally.

Tasks

The Opportunity – Responsibilities

  • Act as a Project Manager and Mechanical Lead to lead multi‑disciplinary design projects, specifically within our Healthcare business.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines and work in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
  • Responsible for quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.
  • This role also has the potential to lead the Houston mechanical team as part of a wider regional discipline team network, including acting as a hiring manager for mid‑level staff.
  • Assist, supervise, or mentor team members and deliver timely feedback and recognition to others. Create an environment of inclusivity that inspires the growth and career development of junior and senior team members.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the design of mechanical systems, including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, and specialty exhaust systems.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports, and presentation materials, and incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
  • Represent the firm as a whole and communicate with clients regarding project goals and financials.
  • Maintain strong client relations as they pertain to project delivery and repeat business. Coordinate and represent project teams with clients.
  • Work within our business leadership team to anticipate and support future work‑winning in alignment with our business development strategies.
  • Oversee the preparation of proposals and bid submissions, and negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions.
  • Assist and supervise staff on a variety of projects, primarily in Healthcare.
  • Work in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
  • Participate in local Professional Associations.

Requirements

The Skills – Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in the U.S. – required.
  • 12+ years of professional experience designing building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components, with significant experience working on healthcare projects.
  • For healthcare‑based work, the candidate should have a significant focus on inpatient critical care facilities (e.g., academic medical centers, specialty care centers, community inpatient hospitals, etc.).
  • Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically ASHRAE, HIH, LEED, energy efficiency, indoor quality, and NFPA.
  • Experience in leading multi‑disciplinary projects and managing complex, large‑scale client relationships.
  • Track record of work‑winning and demonstrable commercial foresight, along with proven expertise in building and managing successful relationships with client organizations.
  • Experienced, dynamic, and engaging leader with a strong track record of leading and managing teams. Provides an aspirational role model to those developing their career.
  • Ability to facilitate connections between external stakeholders and internal disciplines.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • LEED Accreditation or WELL Certification.
  • Engineering analysis and energy modeling experience, including whole‑building energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modeling.
