Mechanical Engineering Manager

We are seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) Licensed Engineering Manager to lead our Mechanical Engineering Department in Ames, IA. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing mechanical design projects, engineering staff, and ensuring high-quality delivery of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee all mechanical engineering and design work produced by the team
• Manage full-cycle design, layout, and execution of engineering projects (MEP systems)
• Develop in-house engineering drawings, detailed designs, and conceptual layouts
• Ensure accuracy, performance, and compliance of all engineering deliverables
• Coordinate HVAC, piping, and plumbing system design across projects
• Serve as primary contact for external consultants, vendors, and project partners
• Schedule and manage engineering staff workload in coordination with project managers
• Attend client meetings, design reviews, and construction coordination meetings
• Establish, implement, and maintain engineering standards and best practices
• Mentor, train, and evaluate engineering team members
• Oversee multiple concurrent projects with varying complexity
• Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks for design coordination

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Construction, or related Engineering field
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) License required
• 7+ years of engineering experience in MEP / HVAC / construction-related fields
• 5+ years of leadership or engineering management experience
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems
• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening
