Mechanical Engineering Manager - Interior Design- Rolling Stock

Position Overview:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager – Interior Design will report to the Mechanical Engineering Senior Manager in Sacramento, California.  You will be responsible for mechanical engineering interior design activities across all rail platforms (Coach, Light Rail, and Locomotives).

The successful candidate will serve as the technical liaison between the Engineering departments in Sacramento California, Graz Austria, Vienna Austria, Munich Germany with manufacturing engineering in Sacramento, CA, Lexington North Carolina and Horsehead New York to ensure proper implementation of design drawings and guidelines.  In addition, candidates shall have fundamental understanding of machine design and state of the art design for manufacturing and assembly principles with the ability to efficiently communicate technical details to design, production, and leadership staff. 

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Lead a team of engineers in designing rail vehicles.
• Perform complex design, development, testing, and modifications.
• Explain and clarify complex technical specifications and performance characteristics.
• Prepare, review, and approve drawings using CREO (ProEngineer) platform.
• Supervise new designs and processes to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and resolve complex problems using problem-solving skills.
• Have detailed knowledge of geometric dimensioning, tolerancing, and state-of-the-art design for manufacturing and assembly.
• Support Procurement with material sourcing and design requirements interpretation.
• Provide technical support and solutions for production articles.
• Some travel required

To thrive in this role, you have:

• A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of experience. Additionally, at least 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience covering the entire project lifecycle from engineering to warranty.
• Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with rail vehicle industry test standards (ASTM, NFPA, FRA, APTA), fire safety compliance (CFR, NFPA-130), and PRIIA single level and locomotive specifications.
• Technical Skills: Strong technical writing skills and working knowledge of relevant engineering practices.

This position is based in Sacramento, CA. We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA, is $134,400 - $157,800 and the annual incentive target is 10% of the base salary. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
