Mechanical Engineer/Naval Architect

The Marine Engineer / Naval Architect will support the final design validation, systems integration, and construction close-out activities for the HOS-369 and HOS-370 Marine Support Vessels. This role bridges the gap between design, production, and delivery by providing hands-on technical support to ensure that vessel systems, structures, and outfitting elements are aligned with the design intent, classification requirements, and owner specifications. The engineer will assist with inspections, field changes, test readiness, and resolution of engineering and integration issues during the final outfitting, testing, and trials phases. 

• Support validation of structural, mechanical, and marine systems design during final construction, ensuring alignment with ABS, USCG, SOLAS, and customer requirements.
• Provide technical evaluation of engineering drawings, stability data, equipment arrangements, and integration of hull, machinery, and outfitting elements.
• Assist in troubleshooting discrepancies between design documentation and as-built conditions; recommend technically sound and production-feasible resolutions.

• Participate in inspections and walkdowns of compartments, machinery spaces, and technical systems in preparation for testing and delivery.
• Evaluate and support closure of production punch lists and engineering change items (ECNs, redlines, Field Engineering Requests).
• Support trials readiness by coordinating with production, QA, and test teams to verify installation, access, safety compliance, and operability of marine systems.
• Help ensure that configuration control is maintained and that final technical documentation (e.g., as-built drawings, test records, and equipment manuals) meets contract delivery requirements.
• Coordinate with classification society and regulatory representatives as required to support inspections or documentation reviews.

Education/Certification Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Ocean Engineering.

 • 5+ years of experience in ship design, marine systems integration, or vessel construction support, preferably on offshore support vessels or government shipbuilding programs.
• Familiarity with classification society rules (ABS) and regulatory compliance (USCG, SOLAS, IMO).
• Strong understanding of vessel stability, hull design, structural analysis, and shipboard mechanical systems.
• Proficient in reviewing engineering deliverables such as GA drawings, structural sections, stability books, and equipment installation plans.
• Experience working in or alongside a shipyard production team.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, QA, and production staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous support experience with ESG or Hornbeck Offshore programs.
• Familiarity with ShipConstructor, AutoCAD, GHS, or similar naval architecture tools.
• Experience supporting test events, inclining trials, compartment completions, and final delivery preparations.
• Understanding of machinery alignment, shafting systems, HVAC, bilge, ballast, and other marine support systems.
