Mechanical Skid Assembly Team Lead


Location: Duncan, SC


Schedule: 1st Shift


Employment Type: Full Time


Job Summary


We are seeking a Mechanical Skid Assembly Team Lead to oversee daily assembly operations within the fabrication shop. This role is responsible for leading a team of Mechanical Skid Assemblers and Helpers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality assembly of mechanical skids and piping systems. The Team Lead will provide hands-on support, coordinate workflow, and ensure alignment with production goals, drawings, and safety standards. This position requires strong mechanical knowledge, leadership ability, and a commitment to quality and accountability.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead and support a team of assemblers and helpers in daily production activities

  • Assign tasks and prioritize work to meet production schedules and deadlines

  • Oversee assembly of mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and pipe spools onto skids

  • Ensure proper fit-up, alignment, and installation in accordance with drawings and specifications

  • Provide hands-on assistance with drilling, tapping, bolting, and mechanical assembly as needed

  • Verify materials, components, and assemblies meet job requirements before installation

  • Monitor workflow to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and minimal downtime

  • Coordinate with supervisors, QC, welding, and planning teams to maintain production flow

  • Train and mentor helpers and less experienced assemblers to develop skills and promote growth

  • Ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and material handling (including forklifts when applicable)

  • Enforce all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and hazard awareness

  • Identify and report safety concerns, quality issues, or production delays

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and production-ready work environment

  • Participate in daily production (POD) meetings and communicate team progress


Additional Duties



  • Assist other departments as needed to support production flow

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and efficiency efforts

  • Perform basic equipment and tool inspections

  • Assist in resolving workflow or personnel challenges on the floor


Required Qualifications



  • 3–5+ years of mechanical assembly, fabrication, or skid assembly experience

  • Proven ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and prints

  • Strong working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices

  • Experience with drilling, tapping, bolting, and mechanical installation

  • Demonstrated leadership or team lead experience in a shop environment

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow in a fast-paced setting


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in pipe fabrication or skid assembly

  • Forklift experience or certification

  • Ability to read isometric or mechanical drawings

  • Previous experience training or mentoring employees
