Job Summary
The overall purpose of a MED TECH is to assist residents with oral and topical medications to residents. This position is ordered by physician and Director of Wellness according to state and federal guidelines and regulations. Ensure residents are treated with respect and dignity. Recognizes individual needs and encourages independence. Fosters a homelike atmosphere throughout the community.
Essential Functions
1 Administer medications as ordered by physicians under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
Properly follow rounds being made before shift start- Take vitals and documents,
Teach and use proper feeding techniques, Transfers, positioning and turning residents frequently who need it.
2. Maintains a clean, safe and orderly environment for the residents.
3. Demonstrates the “five rights” of medication administration. Record all information in ALIS program
4. Records and reports on changes in residents' eating habits to the supervisor.
5. Maintains residents’ records daily in a timely manner and in accordance with company policy and procedures, reporting any changes in resident’s physical condition and/or behavior, visitors, etc.
-Observes and reports the health and emotional condition of each resident, and promptly reports all changes to the supervisor. Refer to state specific regulations regarding assistance and documentation.
6. Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly and positively to resident requests for assistance - including telephone calls and requests from family and friends. Answer the call lights within a timely manner.
7. Knows location of each resident, reminds them to sign out when they leave the building, and notifies the supervisor immediately if unable to locate a resident
8. Respect the Resident rights policy and allow residents to make personal choices and provide and reinforce other behaviors consistent with the resident’s dignity.
9. Follow dress code (No crocs, no cuts in clothing, no leggings, no scrubs), know your chain of command, time punch correctly done.
10. Encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to six months related experience preferred and/or training in direct service with older adults, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of dementia particularity of the Alzheimer’s type is helpful.
