Job Description - Media Services Assistant

Media Services Assistant

Mail. Print. Events. Inventory. The occasional heroic courier run.

Lyon College is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and service-minded Media Services Assistant to join the
Media Services team. This part-time role helps keep the behind-the-scenes machinery of campus life moving: mail
gets delivered, packages find their homes, print jobs make it to the right people, event equipment appears where it is
supposed to, and inventory does not mysteriously vanish into the same dimension as missing HDMI adapters.

This position is part practical logistics, part print production, part event support, and part "make sure the thing gets to
the place before someone starts asking where the thing is." A noble calling, really.

The Media Services Assistant reports to the Assistant Director of Media Services and will work primarily on the
Batesville campus, with a weekly courier trip to Lyon College locations in Little Rock and Cabot.

What You'll Do
Your main quest will be supporting the daily operations of Media Services, especially mail and package delivery. You
will help sort, move, deliver, and pick up campus mail and packages, including items that may be heavy,
time-sensitive, or important enough that they should not be placed "somewhere safe" and then immediately forgotten
by civilization.
You will also assist with print services by operating designated print equipment after training, preparing completed print
jobs, and delivering finished materials to campus offices and departments. No ancient print magic is required, though
patience with printers is always a useful character trait.
This role also helps with basic audiovisual event setup. That may include delivering, placing, retrieving, or organizing
event equipment and materials. You will not be expected to perform advanced troubleshooting or live technical
support, but you will help make sure equipment gets where it needs to go and report issues when something looks
wrong, sounds wrong, or has clearly chosen violence.
Inventory support is also part of the job. You will assist with organizing, moving, tracking, and checking Media Services
equipment and supplies so that the department can maintain order in the realm.

A Typical Day May Include
● Sorting and delivering mail across campus.
● Handling packages and making sure they reach the correct location.
● Operating college vehicles, including Information Services vans and golf carts.
● Preparing and delivering completed print jobs.
● Helping operate print production equipment after training.
● Setting up or moving equipment for campus events.
● Reporting missing, damaged, or malfunctioning items.
● Helping keep Media Services storage and inventory areas organized.
● Making a weekly courier-style trip between Batesville, Little Rock, and Cabot.

What This Role Is Not
This is not a general helpdesk position. You will not be expected to troubleshoot computers, reset passwords, solve
mysterious Wi-Fi problems, or explain why someone's laptop "was working yesterday." Media Services has its own
important work, and this role is focused on mail, print, courier support, event setup, and inventory assistance.

Schedule and Location
This is a part-time, non-exempt position scheduled for approximately 20 hours per week.
The normal schedule is:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
The position is based primarily on the Batesville campus, with a weekly courier trip to Lyon College locations in Little
Rock and Cabot.

Required Qualifications
● High school diploma or GED.
● Valid driver's license.
● Ability to safely operate college vehicles, including vans and golf carts.
● Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
● Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
● Dependability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
● Professional and courteous communication skills.
● Ability to work independently while following established procedures.
● Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications
● Previous experience in mail services, courier work, print production, audiovisual setup, inventory support, facilities support, or a similar service-oriented role.
● Experience working in a college, school, office, or customer-service environment.
● Comfort handling packages, printed materials, equipment, and recurring delivery schedules.
● A healthy respect for deadlines, labels, carts, keys, and the strange emotional lives of printers.
