Job Description - Medical Assistant

Description

Oral and Facial Surgery of the Shoals is seeking a skilled, full-time Medical Assistant to join our team and assist us in delivering exceptional care to our patients at our Sheffield location. 

The ideal candidate will have experience in a dental office setting and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Oral Surgeon during a variety of surgical and dental implant procedures. 
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patients by following required procedures and protocols.
  • Take dental x-rays of excellent, diagnostic quality.
  • Utilize practice management software effectively and efficiently.
  • Review patient health history to ensure it is recorded accurately and completely. 
  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures, local and IV sedation, according to physician orders.
  • Evaluate patient’s preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative status at intervals according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Provide patients with post-operative instructions for oral care following surgery or other oral treatment procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential 
  • Work in a team environment with other clinical and administrative staff, doctors, and nurses.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of Dental Assistant, Oral Surgery Assistant, or Medical Assistant experience is preferred but not required.
  • Certification or Associate Degree in an accredited Assisting program is preferred but not required. 
  • Experience starting IVs is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of medications and health conditions treated in an Oral Surgery practice is preferred.
  • Candidates with surgical and anesthesia assisting experience are preferred. 
  • Experience operating X-Ray equipment and CT machines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Consistently professional appearance and attitude.
  • Must be detail oriented, punctual, and patient-care focused.
  • Motivated to grow and learn. 
  • High  school diploma or equivalent.
