Medical Assistant

Position Introduction

The Medical Assistant is responsible for educating people about health issues, improving community health and safety and increasing access to care. The medical assistant will assist in program planning to alleviate or eliminate health disparities in the community and assist in emergency preparedness procedures and disaster relief efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

• Certification from the State of Ohio for medical assisting

• Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and remain insurable in accordance with the district’s vehicle insurance policy.
  


• Must sign and abide by the agency’s nicotine free hiring policy.


• Must successfully pass drug screen and background check.

Essential Duties

1. Provides direct care as ordered by the clinicians under general supervision


2. Identifies program objectives and formulates plans for service delivery


3. Develops and administers treatment plans based on client needs


4. Disseminates education materials to program participants


5. Refers clients to other public health agencies, social service programs, or medical specialists as needed


6. Documents the delivery of services in accordance with policy and procedures.


7. Delivers various complex public health services as part of the immunization program


8. Interviews and assesses clients to determine treatment needs


9. Reviews medical history to ensure proper service delivery


10. Disseminates educational material concerning treatments


11. Computes proper documentation detailing service delivery in accordance with policy and procedures.


12. Continually reviews program operations and develops or revises new and existing service protocols as needed.


13. Monitors vaccine stock and clinical materials inventory


14. Tracks usage and orders supplies as needed


15. Receives inventory shipments and updates records to reflect receipt of items


16. Operates and maintains health care equipment


17. May be required to assist service coordinators with day-to-day operations


18. Delivers various in-house laboratory services


19. Ensures that laboratory equipment is operating and kept in good condition


20. Assists with prior authorizations, patient RX refill requests and referrals


21. Greets and directs clients to appropriate offices in the agency


22. Performs monthly inventory of supplies and prepares reports of item usage in accordance with policy and procedure.


23. Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars to stay current on public health issues and promote community awareness


24. Represents agency at various official meetings, public gatherings, etc.


25. Provides information to the public and speaks on various public health topics (e.g., BCMH, immunization, communicable disease, etc.).


26. Assists in writing, directing and executing grant requirements.


27. Maintains required licensure and certification.


28. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.


29. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.


30. Regular, punctual attendance

This position is currently working the following 35-hour per week schedule:

Monday 8 am-1 pm

Tuesday 8 am-630 pm

Wednesday 8 am-630 pm

Thursday 8 am-630 pm
