Medical Assistant

Job Summary:

Assists with nursing care of patients, preoperatively and postoperatively under supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Greets patient and provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and supports the patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.


2. Stocks Pre-Op & PACU with supplies, stocks refrigerator with nourishment for patients.


3. Weighs patients and reports results to RN.


4. Assists in the monitoring of physical symptoms and behavioral changes. Reports any concerns to RN.


5. Provides nourishments for patients under supervision of RN.


6. Assists patients in and out of bed and to bathroom as per RN.


7. Assist patients in dressing as needed.


8. Escorts the patients via wheelchair to car after discharge.


9. Cleans equipment in all areas of the Center according to manufacturer's recommendations and stores equipment safely.


10. Performs room turnover and appropriate room cleaning in all areas of the Center accordance with Center policy.


11. Performs clerical tasks as needed.


12. Helps Materials Manager with supplies as needed.

Education and Experience:

1. Graduate of a school for medical technology, medical assistant program, preferred.


2. Prior experience in a physician's office or health care setting, preferred.


3. Able to speak, read, and write in English.

Physical/Mental Requirements

1. Ability to sit/stand for a considerable amount of time; ability to walk.


2. Visual and auditory acuity for frequent use of computer, telephone, and occasional use of other office equipment.


3. Ability to perform occasional overhead and low reaching.


4. Physical strength required for equipment needs and patient-care activities.


5. Visual and auditory acuity for timely responsiveness and patient-care assessment activities.


6. Ability to move quickly in response to center needs.


7. Constant and frequent judgment and response.


8. Occasional judgment and response to disasters or emergencies, actual events, or drills.

Working Conditions (Environmental)

1. Well-lit and ventilated, with non-hazardous and hazardous equipment.


2. Category I: involves occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials.
