Medical Assistants are responsible for assisting physicians and extenders (NP/PA’s). They perform multiple tasks involving patient care such as rooming patients, obtaining vitals, EMR and medication reconciliation and performing EKG’s. Medical Assistants will be assigned an office location, however, it is possible you may be asked to travel to another office when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrates exceptional care and compassion in all interactions with patients.
Room patients in a timely and accurate manner.
Obtain vitals at every office visit (blood pressure, manual pulse, height and weight).
Perform EKG’s as per CPPA EKG protocol.
Reconcile medication at every office visit. Includes verifying medications and identifying any discrepancies that need to be addressed with the provider.
Ensure all information and proper documentation provided to physician via EMR is accurate and up to date.
Active use of DHIN and CCHS Powerchart for obtaining clinical information.
All duties and responsibilities are to be completed before the end of the work day.
Prepare/clean exam rooms with designated supplies and equipment.
Assist with medication refills.
Testing callbacks; notify patient of normal test results as per recommendations from provider.
Interact with outside medical offices, diagnostic centers and other companies/organizations based on the needs of the patient.
Assist with Triage department when needed. Handle patient callbacks and relaying information to patient per recommendations/direction of provider.
Obtain Prior authorizations for medications and/or cardiac testing performed outside of our office (i.e. hospital or diagnostic center).
Assist in nuclear stress lab if needed.
Cross-train in other departments to provide proper coverage when needed.
Perform assigned work safely; report to manager in a timely manner any unsafe activity, conditions, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients or visitors.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of recognized Medical Assistant Program or hold Medical Assistant Certification.
1+ years of experience as an MA in a clinical setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of EMR.
Ability to multi-task and be adaptable.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform EKG’s and obtain blood pressure.
Ability to prioritize and have great attention to detail.
Ability to function well in a high paced and at times stressful environment.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Finger dexterity to perform duties such as typing or writing.
Ability to speak and hear.
Intermittent periods of bending, reaching and lifting.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
