Job Description - Medical Assistant - Dermatology

As a Medical Assistant you will be responsible for preparing patient charts for upcoming appointments, taking vital signs, performing patient intake as directed, and assisting them during office hours to ensure patients receive prompt, efficient, and courteous care. 

Responsibilities:

  • Timely and accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) 
  • Assist providers with minor surgical procedures that require knowledge of sterile procedure and autoclaving instruments 
  • Maintain confidentiality per policy and governing HIPAA laws 
  • Follow proper protocol for securing workstation when walking away 
  • Escorts patients to exam room, obtain vitals, updates patient history, reconciles medications, allergies, and any required quality data 
  • Provides patient with orders, education and medication instructions as directed by Provider 
  • Cleans and prepares exam rooms for each patient 
  • Identify and properly label all specimen tubes for testing 
  • Follow up on Electronic Medical Record documents routed to him/her by the Providers 
  • Accurately and efficiently respond to tasks and triages received from providers and other office staff 
  • Must adhere to policies, procedures and regulations as outlined in the office policy and procedures manual 
  • Interact with fellow workers in a way that promotes a harmonious and cooperative working environment 
  • Monitor the refill line, queue medication and create triage to provider. 
  • Monitor labs and pathologies received. Create triage and route to provider for review. 
  • Observe and document patient interactions in real time, including the patient's history, physical exam, and procedures.
  • Document the results of lab, radiology and the time of patient care activities.
  • Document patients visit per provider instructions. 
  • Organize, prepare, and edit patient health records in real time.
  • Ensure Provider notes are accurate and timely.  
  • Stocks exam rooms with medical supplies, as necessary 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Requirements

Education/Experience:

  •  Successful completion of an accredited Medical Office Assistant or Phlebotomy program OR 
  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of one (1) year of full-time clinical or administrative healthcare experience OR
  •  High school diploma or GED with at least six (6) months of full-time clinical or administrative healthcare experience at RPCI Oncology, PC
  • One (1) year of experience as a Medical Assistant strongly preferred
  • BLS certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
  • Prior experience as a medical scribe is preferred; however, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to be trained in scribing to effectively support healthcare providers
