Job Description Summary
We are excited to announce an opening for a Senior Medical Assistant III at our South Lakeland office! In this role, you will perform both clinical and administrative duties under the direct supervision of our Physicians. Your warm and welcoming demeanor will help put patients at ease throughout their visit, as you provide support during diagnostic examinations and treatments, administer medications, draw blood, and facilitate communication between patients and physicians.

How will you make an impact & Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
- Prepare patients for medical examinations and assist healthcare providers during procedures.
- Venipuncture - draws blood.
- Ensure that all patients are brought into the examination room within 15 minutes of being checked into the clinic.
- Scans all documents from the patient's records into the system.
- Assists physician in any procedure, or lab requests.
- Prepares patient charts 24 hours before patients are seen.
- Answers all patients’ messages in a timely manner.
- Receives requests for refills and processes them within 24 hours of the request.
- Reviews the fax server daily and carefully uploads them to the correct patient's file.
- Maintains prescribed medication room organized and clean.
- Maintains examining rooms organized and stocked.
- Maintains the Lab & Procedures room organized.
- Keeps correct inventory levels of all medical supplies.
- Performs all HEDIS measures for new and existing patients.
- Helps other team members as needed.
- Performs routine laboratory tests on patients as provided by established protocol.
- Maintains nursing stations and examination areas in a manner consistent with OSHA standards and universal precautions procedures.
- Maintains inventory of medical supplies and materials.
- Receives and screens telephone calls.
- Coordinates patient flow.
- Maintains office/department and patient records.
- Prepares timely, legible, and complete documentation of all patient care as provided by law, regulation, and established policy.
- Participates in quality improvement and utilization review activities.
- Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies/practices.
- Applies safety principles as identified by established policy.
- Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
- Assists any provider within the practice.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) is highly desirable.
- 1 year of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Experience (Athena preferred)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
