Job Title: Medical Assistant Department: Medical Services Reports To: Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Medical Director Location: Beyond Addiction
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) provides direct clinical and administrative support to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) and medical team to ensure efficient and high-quality patient care. This position plays a key role in supporting medical services for clients and assisting with daily operations within the medical department. The MA will work closely with the NP to support assessments, medication management, coordination of care, and health education.
This position offers an opportunity for professional growth as the medical department continues to expand. The Medical Assistant will gain experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, and integrated medical care while developing advanced clinical and administrative skills.
This position will be 7am-3pm with a potential of some shifts being 8am-4pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Support
Assist the Nurse Practitioner with medical evaluations and follow-up appointments.
Obtain and document vital signs, medical history updates, and client health concerns.
Prepare exam rooms and ensure proper sanitation and infection control procedures.
Assist with specimen collection (urine, bloodwork coordination, etc.) and lab documentation.
Coordinate laboratory services and track results with medical providers.
Support medication management processes under NP supervision.
Prepare and maintain medical equipment and supplies.
Patient Care & Education
Provide clients with basic health education and instructions as directed by the NP.
Assist clients in understanding medications, appointments, and treatment plans.
Support communicable disease screening education (HIV, Hepatitis, TB) and referral coordination when needed.
Assist with intake medical screenings for new clients.
Administrative Support
Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA.
Schedule medical appointments and coordinate care with outside providers when necessary.
Assist with medication logs, inventory, and ordering medical supplies.
Document clinical interactions and procedures in the electronic health record.
Program Support
Collaborate with counseling staff and case management to coordinate client care.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement activities.
Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and healthcare standards.
Support development and expansion of medical services within the program.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred
Experience
Previous experience in a medical office, behavioral health, or substance use treatment setting preferred but not required
Certifications (Preferred but not required)
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent
CPR / First Aid Certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work effectively with individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Willingness to learn and grow within an expanding medical department
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and assist clients as needed
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Ability to perform routine clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and preparing medical equipment
